History of the Choir

The Virginia Beach Interdenominational Choir was formed, December 1982, by the late Ronald Simpson. Upon his passing the choir was passed on to Chris Langley and Gary Moore. Chris played for Ronald years before and Gary was a prior member. So they understand the vision. The two of them have led the choir to record their own album and appear on two other recordings.

During Ronald’s reign, VBIC traveled to such places as Lynchburg, VA, Philadelphia, PA, the eastern shore, and Baltimore MD singing about the goodness of the Lord. They even traveled to Raleigh, NC to perform with Shirley Caesar. VBIC was known for its strong sound and the signature “lean” that set the choir among the elite. VBIC appeared on the TV show spread a little sunshine a few times and was always on the ticket with such greats as Peggy Britt and the Philharmonics, and Amos Davis and the Angelic Choraliers.

Since Chris and Gary took over VBIC in 1999, the choir has toured across the country singing with many great producers and songwriters such as David Frazier, John Harley, Donovan Jackson and their current producer Paul PJ Morgan and never lost sight of what God called the choir to do, minister to God’s people. VBIC has been requested for overdubs on several projects, and the opening act for many proclaimed gospel artist such as: Candi Staton and John P. Key. Through it all, Gary and Chris have kept the choir together to sing praises to the king.

VBIC started a back to school musical that gave school supplies to needy children and churches which proved to be successful, by supplying goods to about 50 children. They also did a gospel street bash that took gospel to the streets, so that young and old might hear the word of God through song. After the gospel street bash, 2 people joined the church, that hadn’t been to church in years. VBIC consists of members from many different churches and religions. Ronald’s precept was that people from different churches and different religions could come together and sing for a common cause, to spread the gospel through songs. That is why we call ourselves the Virginia Beach “Interdenominational” Choir, because we want to unite the voices no matter what denomination one might be. Virginia Beach is our home-base however some members live in Norfolk, Chesapeake, and surrounding areas.

VBIC performs at choir anniversaries, church conferences, weddings, funerals, gospel concerts, and gospel festivals such as: Afram’Fest and Tidewater GMWA Concert. They participated in the Carolina Phase I Project “Worth it All”, where they were a part of the mass choir and the producers requested them by name to come back to North Carolina to do the overdubs. VBIC also sang background vocals for Doris Granby’s song entitled God is Listening. VBIC performs at local churches monthly and participate in community projects whenever possible to support the youth and distressed families. VBIC celebrates 25 years of service this year.
