Valerie McLeod

I've seen Regina-raised, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Valerie McLeod play twice at O'Hanlon's, where she launches this CD Oct. 26 at 9:30 p.m., but on this self-titled release I found myself missing the grit and energy she brought to those performances. Not to say that this disc doesn't have its charms. "Quiet Inside", "Misused" and "Don't Sadden" are all strong tracks. Less successful are "October Monday" and "Prairie Sky". Be warned-lovelorn lyrics (and sentiments) abound. But they're heartfelt. And McLeod, who some Reginans may remember from a stint in the band North of Dewdney, is a talent to watch.
