Bio

The Band

Formed in 2008 in Belo Horizonte, a city in the southeast of Brazil, Valsa Binária is definitely a rising name in the local scene. This is significant in a musically effervescent town, that has spawned names like Sepultura, Pato Fu, Milton Nascimento, among many others. Guitarist and singer Leo Moraes, drummer Rodrigo Valente and bass-man Alex Reuter come across as an easy going and unpretentious group and produce music that is both eclectic and interesting, with arrangements that always hide little surprises underneath the unusual chord progressions and lyrics of precise and intelligent poetry.

The CD

Released in august 2011 by the label Membrana Música, Valsa Binária’s debut album presents 12 songs recorded in 2009 and 2010. It registers the band’s production in the period and explicitly demonstrates the band’s versatility. The listener travels between sweetness and sarcasm, between strange ballads and harsh rock, going through flavors of samba, country and surf music. In the end it’s difficult to decide on what shelf to place this band. It’s almost indefinable contemporary pop music.

The show

When performing live, Valsa Binária offers a treat for the eyes, as well as for the ears. The songs are illustrated by interactive projections, making use of cameras and various sensors that respond to stimuli from the audience and from the band itself, which makes each presentation unique. The images capture and enforce the mood of each moment, and make for a beautiful scenery.
