Drastic lineup changes in a band often spell disaster, or ultimately, end the band completely. This latest incarnation of Van Atta High features lone original member Steve Kellner providing vocal duties once again. This time, with a completely new lineup. Those familiar with their previous effort, Run Like Hell, will notice the change from a post-hardcore band to a more pop-driven band and the change may leave a bad taste in the mouths of long time fans. Though at first glance the album may seem quite generic and typical of similar bands, it does have its shining moments.
Kicking off the album is the high energy title track, “Doin’ Somethin’ Right” which proves the band still have the ability to write some memorable tracks. Continuing on, we are lead into the somewhat generic likes of “Birthday Girl,” and with lyrics such as “And I’m not the one you want/I’ll only break your heart,” one can’t help but cringe at the overused cliché. Thankfully, tracks such as “Shakin’ In My Shoes” will allow this band to go above and beyond the label of “generic pop-punk.” The track begins with a slight piano intro, which eventually fades to a calm backing, then the track evolves into something beautiful. From the infectious chorus, to the almost unexpected guitar solo halfway through the song, it’s evident that these tiny bits should restore any faith lost in the band during the slight identity crisis.
This step in a new direction may leave some fans asking “Why?”, but with this new sound the band is much more approachable to the average listener and in turn are able to reach a broader audience. With a little hard work and dedication, Van Atta High could become the next pop-punk powerhouse. - Reviewrinserepeat.com

Bio
Van Atta High is a band who's roots can be traced back to June 2006, when founding member Steve Kellner formed the band with a few friends. Although members have changed since then, the band's creed has remained consistent: To play music they love, for people who love it....the more who love it, the better!
After establishing a core fan-base in North Jersey, Van Atta High set out to create a larger buzz for themselves and win over a larger audience. In an effort to do so, the band landed spots on Taste Of Chaos 2007, Warped Tour 2007/2008 and Bamboozle 2008. These large festivals partnered with shows in other regions and an intense internet presence have done wonders for the bands popularity, as well as local and national press coverage (including being named Alternative Press Magazine's "Unsigned Band of the Month" in August 2008).
In December 2008, VAH inked a recording contract with indie label Thriving/Tragic Hero Records (prior home to Sky Eats Airplane & Emarosa, Distributed by Warner Music Group). On March 10th, 2009 Van Atta High released their first nationally distributed record entitled DOIN' SOMETHIN' RIGHT (EP).
