"8 albums to watch in '08"

Ryland Bojack Traveling Salesman (fall)

Sometimes a newbie hits the scene running, and other times they sprint. Last month, when Jordan Wynn announced the January lineup for his Redlight Redlight art-music sessions, the crowd was bafflingly enthused to hear Bojack’s name. Who? Thanks to Myspace and some very good underground buzz, Bojack is starting to play with the big boys. Two weeks after Wynn’s announcement, Back Booth hosted Bojack right alongside Matt Butcher and Eric Hayden of the Sugar Oaks. Cred, yo. Bojack says he’s heading into the studio in the coming months and describes his sonic direction as “country Dylan meets the Beach Boys, mixed with a bit of Rufus Wainwright.”

"Show Review"

Vanda, the new local band fronted by Ryland Bojack, showed promise in their debut performance (Sept. 6, Orlando Brewing). Rather than a world-weary brand of country, their down-home twang is leavened by the kind of indie pop that would be at home in Athens. They're just out of the gate, so due lenience was given, but the energy, optimism and melody they displayed earns them a spot on the radar.

Bio

After several years of solo acoustic shows in the Central Florida area, Ryland Bojack contacted Ian Kahn (drums) in an effort to expand his sound in a full band format. After several bass players came and went, they met Dave Rego. Besides being a highly creative and interesting player, Dave also fit the motivated mood and attitude of the band. The final piece of the puzzle came together when Ryland’s sister Jamie Clare Bojack joined. Not only does her organ playing fill out the bands sound, but her soaring vocals blend with Ryland’s in a way that only a brother and sisters can. Vanda has hit the ground running earning them positive reviews and dedicated fans throughout the central Florida area.
