VANDA

VANDA

BandAlternativeSinger/Songwriter

I describe my music as alternative pop, which is a mixture between pop, rock, piano music, alternative ideas and catchy poppy melodies. I love to experiment. Genre is close to Alanis Morissette, Tori Amos, Regina Spektor. My fans say the voice is close to Gwen Stefani or Shakira.

Biography

Born in Slovakia, 1986, Vanda has been composing since a very early age. Today she is the author of more than 120 songs and their lyrics. Composing music has been the strongest passion and number one priority in the life of this young and talented artist. As she says: “Songs never lie. That’s what’s so amazing about them. Even if I tried to hide something from the world, the lyrics just wouldn’t let me. They are not only my confession, but also my psychotherapy – I feel calmer each time the sorrow or joy comes out on paper.” The first songs started to pour out at the age of 12, followed by her stage-life at 15 performing along with local bands from her hometown (Mercery st. and The Red One).

No matter where she goes, her music is always with her. This led to collaborations with local bands and musicians and consequently to a couple of gigs in Santa Fe, Argentina and Rome, Italy. Her life is basically about music and traveling. Prior to her stay in Argentina she lived a few years in the USA and still plans to travel a lot more in the future. Vanda’s first demo Invisible caught attention not only of a wide range of audiences but also of Slovak media and national radio aired her song Will You Catch Me. Her second album, an EP of 5 tracks mapping the different stages and changes in her life, was recorded in summer 2010 with her band. Working with great and inspiring musicians, artists and producers from all over the world (Italy, UK, France, Slovakia, Austria, etc.) contributed greatly to finding the right sound for her songs.

Vanda’s newest work is captured in her first full (12 track) studio album Astrology. She says about it: “I wanted to make each song different and I think in the end this idea worked quite well. Not only genre-wise, but also by the sound and messages I wish to get through. The song Astrology follows two story lines or two dimensions. One is the obvious, a love dilemma with no ‘winner’ and the other one is more profound and spiritual, it speaks of a whole world of above and beyond influencing us in who we are.” V.

Not Today

NOT TODAY

Don’t try to tell me it’s been like this before ?
Oh, dear, what have you mistaken me for? ?
Oh I can deal with it ?
Yes, I can deal with it ?
You want me to deal with it….oh

Standing in place not knowing where to go
?You’re pointing at everyone but what about pointing at you? ?
Oh I can live with it ?
Yes, I can live with it
?You want me to live with it….oh

Don’t get me wrong; boy I want you to know ?
That I’ve been there before and I enjoyed the show
?And I don’t give a damn who the hell you chose ?
‘Cause I liked it but then I had nothing to lose
?I know what you’re gonna say, but I’m sorry, ?I’m sorry –
It’s not happening…happening today

Don’t try to tell me it’s been like this before
?Oh, dear, what have you mistaken me for?
?Oh I can deal with it ?
Yes, I can deal with it ?
You want me to deal with it….oh

Don’t get me wrong; boy I want you to know ?
That I’ve been there before and I enjoyed the show
?And I don’t give a damn who the hell you chose
?‘Cause I liked it but then I had nothing to lose ?
I know what you’re gonna say, but I’m sorry, ?I’m sorry –
It’s not happening today

Maybe some other day, but not today...?

Astrology

ASTROLOGY

I find it all a bit too overwhelming ?
It's the greatest thing since astrology ?
I sit here calmly and try not to expect more ?
Of what I've become

I guess I thought I'd find it in you ?
I guess I thought I could find it in me too
?I guess I thought I'd find it in him, but
?No, I haven't found it yet

I write it down on a small piece of paper
?I record it just to hear my voice
?I push it down just to watch it fall
?I eat the whole meal just to say „I'm full“

I guess I thought I'd find it in you ?
I guess I thought I could find it in me too ?
I guess I thought I'd find it in him, but ?
No, I haven't found it yet

I break it just to glue it back together
?It's my favorite way of spending my time
?I hit the brakes though I should be accelerating ?
I shut my mouth just to keep it shut

I guess I thought I'd find it in you
?I guess I thought I could find it in me too
?I guess I thought I'd find it in him, but ?
No, I haven't found it at all ?
No, I haven't found it at all
?No, I haven't found it at all?

Everything I Need

Written By: Vanda

EVERYTHING I NEED

I got it on my own and I don’t wanna give it back
?I got you that I can rely on, covering my back
?And I got everything, everything I need ?

Whispers in the morning and screaming at night ?
The way you hold my hand, baby you’re sure worth a fight
?And I got everything, everything I need

And now I’m just fine
?Oh, and now I’m just fine

A place to lay my head down when I feel I’ve had enough ?
A shoulder to cry on when the world don’t treat my right
?And I got everything, everything I need

?Music all around me be it day or be it night ?
A tune in my head that wants to get out ?
And I got everything, everything I need

And now I’m just fine ?
Oh, and now I’m just fine

I got it on my own and I don’t wanna give it back
?There won’t ever be anyone like you and that’s a fact
?Oh, baby boy ?
You’re loving me like mad and that’s exactly how you should ?
I would never ever ever change you even if I could
?Oh, baby boy

And now I’m just fine
?Oh, and now I’m just fine ?

Envy

ENVY

I wanted more than a cage with no doors
?Yes, we are who we are but you still don't understand it ?
I shut my mouth, tried so hard not to shout
?Lived in doubt what was I to you all this time, la da da...

Why I bought it - 'cause envy's got it ?
Never touched the things I wanted ?
Make your way through, turn around and ?
Don't slip on it, don't spit on it, hey!

I wanted more than a cage with no doors ?
Yes, we are who we are but you still don't understand it ?
I shut my mouth, tried so hard not to shout
?Lived in doubt what was I to you all this time, la da da...

Why I bought it - 'cause envy's got it ?
Never touched the things I wanted ?
Make your way through, turn around and ?
Don't slip on it, don't spit on it, hey!

Envy spreads her legs in my bed ?
Kissing my lips, wants me bad ?
Her taste in my mouth makes it dry now
?Managed to confuse me somehow?

FLOATING

Now you lay here like a baby ?
A telescope in your head ?
Please, don’t hurt me ?
You gentle beast messed up like the hair

Floating around
?Liquid
?Spinning inside
?Still

Floating around and I’m spinning inside ?
With you in my head ?
Floating around and I’m spinning inside ?
With you

Rest your mind, don’t think about it
?Baby, it will pass ?
You don’t make sense, ?
But I still adore the mess in yourself

Floating around ?
Liquid ?
Spinning inside ?
Still

Floating around and I’m spinning inside ?
With you in my head ?
Floating around and I’m spinning inside with you ?
Floating around and I’m spinning inside ?
With you in my head
?Floating around and I’m spinning inside ?
With you

There goes the winter, let it go now ?
Don’t you know yourself? ?
Maybe a dazzle, maybe glitter ?
And maybe it’s not there

Floating around
?Liquid
?Spinning inside ?
Still… ?
