A new show by singer and composer Vandex, Punk Bossa, will be performed at the Sala do Coro of the Castro Alves Theater on Monday at 8 p.m.
Characterized by musical creativity, the show brings together two distinct rhythms: punk rock and bossa nova.
Vandex experiments with sound combinations using sophisticated harmonies, melodies and urban lyrics in a unique esthetic concept. Songs and elaborate arrangements make up the repertoire, in partnership with maestro Aderbal Duarte.
The show is part of the “Musical Mondays” program sponsored by the Bahia State Cultural Foundation, a subsidiary of the Secretariat of Culture.

Bio
Vandex is a Brazilian singer and songwriter from Salvador Bahia. Formely bass and lyrics from Úteros em Furia, one of the best-known Brazilian independent bands in the nineties. Vandex is often said to be influenced by Os Mutantes, a famous brazilian tropicalist group from the 1960s, probably because of the experimentalism found in his songs. One can find in Vandex musical influences by Beck, Tom Zé, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Raul Seixas and also MPB, among various others.
He takes Brazilian music and fuse it with Jazz, rock and American psychedelia to create a distinctive, vibrant new sound.
In 2008 Vandex won one of the most important prize of the brazilian music: "Prêmio Pixinguinha-FUNARTE". In 2009 released his first album "Ironia Erótica", after performing a very acclaimed showcase at SXSW.
VANDEX this year returned to Austin, this time the singer and songwriter from Bahia was invited to make two shows at the "Heart of Texas Rockfest", during the week of SXSW 2012.
