Devil's Tongue

Written By: Vanessa Hylande

Devil's tongue lashes out at me
Do I stay or do I run to be free
Grip of steel chokes the air from me

Does love love even this?
Is love strong enough to endure this?

I am afraid to put my child through this
Is there a place where it is truly safe to exist?
I do not feel I should be asking you this
You paint a cruel picture with your words

You cannot control which way I turn
How many bridges must we burn,
Before we find ourselves safe within eachother?
Will we be stranded there,
An island with no others?

Devil's tongue stay away from me
Injured pride go back home to sleep
Hurtful cries do not strike at me
I find it hard to love this,
Doubts are harder to vanquish

Devil's tongue lose your way with speech
Sympathy you will not have from me
Cutting out my eyes so that you can see
I will not pay for your lost pride,
By crawling on my knees at your side

Devil's tongue lashes out at me
Do I stay or do I run to be free?
Grip of steel chokes the air from me

Does love love even this?
