Discography

Both Roger & Vanessa have had originals featured on various radio and TV broadcasts, including triple j, rage, abc's" Australia all Over", NBN's "Today", the Ray Martin Show, Hey Hey it's Saturday and Countdown. Their latest album, "Red Stiletto' is a 13 track Cd which follows their debut album, "Cause & Effect".

Following 18 months of hard work and dedication, Vanessa Lea and her band, Road Train, are promoting their new album Red Stiletto, which was released just in time for the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

This new CD is full of catchy, driving tunes, all penned by singer/songwriter, Vanessa Lea, and talented multi instrumentalist and composer, Roger Faynes. The first single to be released is the beautiful "Only With you", a love song of sorts, which portrays travelling around various landmarks in Australia, such as Kakadu, Uluru, the Nullarbor and The Great Barrier Reef . A video clip for this tune was filmed in Coffs Harbour with the expertise of multi award-winning video director Ross Wood, who describes the tune as having "an incredibly appealing quirky nature" that "puts a smile on your face". The clip is now available to view on YouTube.

The stories on the album are all very relevant, with modern topics such as the internet being discussed. "I've always been fascinated by the word, "Awkward", says Vanessa. "Even the word "awkward" looks awkward. So I tried to imagine a situation where someone would have an awkward moment, and I came across a scenario that people can relate to. A lot of people today meet online, and romances can bloom over the computer, but what if you came across a profile pic of someone who seems really attractive in their photo, then agree to meet the person in real life, but find out they look and act nothing like the person described in their profile? There might be an awkward moment or two if you decide not to pursue the relationship any further, and in real life, you can't press "delete"!!. "Awkward" is a catchy little tune, whose light-hearted lyrics show a cheeky sense of humour.

The title track of the album, "Red Stiletto", is a cleverly written song. This tune is unique as it tells the story of a jilted lover throwing a red stiletto heel at her partner, which accidentally results in his death. The album also has songs about our heritage, with a gunfighter ballad about Australian legend, Ben Hall, and a tear- jerking ballad about the family of Ned Kelly, titled "Such is Life". These were co-written with Vanessa Lea & Road Train's mentor, John Bromell, who, in his time was Managing Director of Warner Chappell, and partly responsible for the success of Lee Kernaghan, Gina Jeffries and Troy Cassar-Daley, amongst many others.

There are songs about horses, outlaws, wheels and country music itself, as Vanessa also draws inspiration from her country upbringing in Gunnedah. This 13 track album is undeniably country, with banjo and slide guitar played by Roger Faynes, and a guest appearance by Gold Coast drummer, Rohan Hems, who has also played in Phil Emmanuel's band for many years. The album also features mandolin, double bass and ukele, and the harmonica is played by Vanessa. The album is already receiving very positive feedback, following its mastering at Garth Porter's Rancom St Studios, Sydney, where it was engineered by the talented Ted Howard. "Red Stiletto" debuted at #2 on GT's Top Ten albums on "Our Country" radio charts.

It has been a very busy year for Vanessa Lea & Road Train, who began 2010 with Vanessa as a Finalist in Toyota Starmaker, in addition to 3 of their songs being selected in the CCMA Finals. This was followed with an impressive lineup of gigs, including appearances at the Hats Off Festival and a huge success at The Gympie Muster.
