Despite it being just pre-dawn as I type, even though I don’t drink the stuff, I feel an urgent need for a whisky to match the mood on hitting play as the gravel rolls around the speakers prior to clipping across the room. Van Funk deliver their music with context, timing and atmosphere and the best bet for the audience is to soak up the sounds on offer.
Drifting instrumentation floats serenely, accompanied by voices laden with emotive context and the combination of the two brings the material to life, feeding into the soul of the listeners. Originally getting together in 2011 the duo have always been prolific songwriters and have managed to hone down a selection for their debut LP which comes out, appropriately, on the 13th December, with the name of 13 which is named after the number of songs on the LP, although ironically there is a fourteenth – but you will need to grab hold of the release when it comes out to find out about that one.
I have had the opportunity to listen to 13 and can say that if you have an interest in blues with a touch of folk, rock, funk and garage this is a fine addition to the collection. Whilst they have been working on the LP they have maintained a live presence and I feel Van Funk have a sound best shared with friends and strangers. Van Funk is blues/rock duo our of Edmonton with big sound.
Think Inner-city country blues.Van Funk is a 4 piece blues/rock band with a huge sound out of Edmonton.

Founding members of Van Funk are Jordan Funk and Jessica Fedorek. A power duo who's chemistry has been building over the past 13+ years. Jordan's gritty riffs and lyrics fit perfectly with Jess's powerful voice and harmonica.
Though originally a duo, the two have morphed into quite the family band with Jess's dad Darrell Guay on bass
and her sister's partner Stu Murland on drums.
Van Funk just released their debut album "13" and are currently on the road supporting the release.
The album was recorded live in studio with a select few songs adding overdubbed harmonica, guitar and keyboard.
Van funk is known locally for their live shows and great sound and it was important to them that the record reflected that.

Nominated for the 2014 Edmonton Music Awards for "Best Blues Recording" (Young Winds), Van Funk has kept busy playing numerous music festivals(Alberta's Own, The Works Art Fest, Alberta Beach Fest) & charity shows (Sirens, Band-Aid, Adamstock, Ronald McDonald house), and performing live on Breakfast Television, and touring in Alberta and B.C.

Their first show under the name Van Funk was Friday the 13, 2011. They finished recording their album on Friday July 13. 2012
and just released their debut album on Dec,13 2013, Naturally their debut album is titled 13.
Van Funk is independently financed, managed, produced and promoted.
They shoot and edit their own videos and do their own graphics for gig posters and album artwork.
They have an exceptionally large catalog of original songs.
