Vanilla Monk formed in the Ft Lauderdale, FL area, in the Summer of 2006, when singer/songwriter Matt Farr paired up with longtime friend and fellow musician Craig Stevens to record an original album. Envisioning a dynamic, down-tempo, and versatile selection of music that would appeal to a broad audience, “Parallels” was released in the fall of 2007. The album featured all original music by Farr and Stevens as well as special guest Audrey Assad. September 21st, 2007 marked the official CD release party and first live performance of VM at Dada in Delray Beach, FL. The full, six piece band, performed to a packed house at one of the areas most popular live music spots and was a huge success.

The groups early accolades include being selected numerous times to perform at South Florida's largest music festival SunFest. In addition VM was invited to play numerous annual jazz festivals across the country. The debut album "Parallels" was also featured in the 2007 Grammy Awards gift bag.

Vanilla Monk is now playing around the South Florida area with various guest musicians covering music from great classic rock, reggae, and funk artists.

Looking toward the future we see another studio project as Farr and Stevens collaborate on new material.
