Bio

Vanity Contest is an electronic music project from Chicago, IL and created by founding songwriter/frontman Brady Matteson. After several years of sitting on unused electronic material, Matteson decided to start his band in his senior year of high school after several failed attempts at starting a group. Inspired by the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Thom Yorke, and UNKLE among others, Matteson immediately went to work on the debut album "Breaking Distance." Released on May 31st, 2019, "Breaking Distance" sold 30 copies in his high school and was praised by friends and peers. The album was noted for having an untapped sound in local Chicago bands, primarily known for its use of electronics and heavily distorted guitar; contrasting from the more common indie rock and Soundcloud rap surrounding other local youth music scenes. After releasing the album, Matteson immediately went back to work on new music while simultaneously rehearsing for live shows. After a summer of working with the band in 2019, Matteson had also finished an EP for the group titled "Hospice For The Lonely" (due for release on October 30th, 2019). The EP was produced solely by himself and recorded entirely in his bedroom. Matteson writes, records, performs and provides everything for the band himself with occasional help from bandmates and friends.
