Bio

Ivan, lead vocalist, guitarist and composer, founded Vanity Affair in 2004 as a solo acoustic project playing cafes and the streets of San Diego in the Legendary Gas Lamp Area, but he has been creating and writing music for practically his whole life. In January 2007, Ivan met Jason during a Magic card game tournament. Jason was beating all challengers and Ivan wanted to meet this Magic champion. When Ivan found that Jason was also an amazing bass player he asked him to join Vanity Affair. Jason then became the permanent bass player, back-up vocalist and a valuable sounding board for Ivan as the creative force behind the project. David, the permanent drummer, entered the picture in March 2007 after Ivan and Jason met him at a video game party being given by a mutual friend. Ivan was being beaten by the only girl invited to the party and David offered him his help. Under David’s direction Ivan managed to beat her and the three guys started talking about video games. The discussion eventually turned to music which is when they found out he could play the drums. There is a strong bond between the three of them and ever since Jason and David joined the guys have been best friends.

The band went on tour in the summer of 2005 with several guest musicians. They traveled from California across the country to New York in eight weeks, playing five shows a week, always packing in a crowd even though they changed cities almost nightly. Ivan’s charisma and infectious songs drew large groups of all ages. In May of 2007 Vanity Affair was given the news they had been named the runners-up to be the opening local band for the local radio station 91X X-Fest. The summer of 2007 Vanity Affair played a sold out show at the Mira Mesa Epicenter for close to 250 people.

Spring 2008 found Vanity Affair headlining the 420 Remix Show at the Oceanside Amphitheater which was attended by thousands. In July of 2008 the band also played at the House of Blues in San Diego, where they out-sold the other two performing bands in ticket sales. In August 08 Ivan decided to take a break from the continual performances to write more material and focus on what he wanted for Vanity Affair’s future sound and image. During the summer of 2009 they won Hot Topic’s best new local artist and have since been playing shows in Hot Topic locations. In June 2009 Vanity Affair was hired to play one of their most favorite shows. The audience was one of the most interactive and involved of any that Vanity Affair has played for with some audience members jumping on stage to sing and dance with the band. This level of interaction with the audience is something Vanity Affair is very excited about, and would love to have at every show they perform. During the fall of 2009 Ivan’s Vanity Affair recorded their debut album together and are now ready to share it with the world.
