""music that coaxes your demons asleep""

The forceful music is the music that coaxes your demons asleep, then cradles them away, with love, in light, from off your shoulders, from off your back: allowing you to stand again. The sad force of their music lets you stand again.

And low and behold, each song somehow ends, even though they all felt like endless, that endless quality of a person who sings purely like they’ve sung a resolution out of some prior silence, the endless quality of a song that breaks our silence; their own, your own, my own; the endless quality … of the ex-”mermaid”, the “deep”, the characters’ tandem, motions of a story told like used-to-be dreams, decisions, cut. Hurt. Dark. Dark in the long seas, the long limbs of alone, but standing now, not quite, quiet, a cut. Cut off on an untold journey like tails of… endless, diving. 3 songs. 3 breaks and spaces.

Van Wyk‘s voice, Van Wyk‘s songs on her EP called TANNED LEGS

As the day draws on, the more these spaces would like you to listen to them in your own, at your own, (not to mention your own priced download) – it’s a good world waiting. - a pocket full of seeds

""Understated folk that rightly features her incredible voice""

Dutch folk singer VanWyck began a song-a-week video project this past week, the first one is called 'lead me on'. it's a stark and understated folk song that rightly features her incredible voice with just enough lead guitar, percussion, bass and piano towards the end.
The video shows her and her back-up players in the studio. i love videos that let the viewer in with an intimate feel on the musical process like that, and i imagine that most of the series will go that way. - the modern folk music of america

""This is music for the down at heel""

Ey oop, Vanwyck have arrived via Amsterdam just in time to leave us with a gorgeous gentle acoustic love bunny of a tune to complete this week’s Fresh Faves. Damien Rice influences glide above me and make me feel sexy, tingly and very special — a dangerous combination for a man of my size, age and nervous disposition. This is music for the down at heel, with sounds to warm the coldest of hearts, it’s not a little lovely and quite a lot wonderful, I’m smitten. - fresh on the net

- Music, books and poems

"“a dark break-up song that intoxicates""

I was away in Bruges last week (a beautiful place to spend a few days) so expect a few more blog posts this forthcoming week as I try and catch up with the music I missed and submissions I received. The first of which is Amsterdam's Van Wyck whose just released her debut EP Tanned Legs (available via Bandcamp), three tracks which immediately envelope the listener within its seductive melancholy.

The title track is a beautifully dark break-up song that intoxicates through Van Wyck's beautifully alluring vocal whispers and descriptive, story-telling lyrics, the musical accompaniment is sparse and never hurried, little more than tender acoustic plucks throughout. It plucks straight at the heartstrings.

"Push Back The Sun" is similarly soul-baring and equally mesmerising, flush with haunting melancholy and mystique with ringing guitars and twinkling piano chords driving the track forward amongst the most beautiful of words all sung in a whisper.

Tanned Legs will become your friend in the dark, lonely midnight hours. Go grab a glass of malt and immerse yourself. You'll soon be drenched in goodness. - Just music that I like
