"EDITORIAL REVIEW"

This 8 track EP from Brooklyn (NY) based production company Auvismedia and remixed by music producer Gordon C. had some very high points during my late night listen. Gordon, adding his own signature experimental sounds and effects throughout the album, actually create the midnight feel to these revamped tracks. Gordon follows in the shadows of urban remix masters like Pete Rock, 9th Wonder and Madlib who have created there own signature sounds. The highlights on this album include the melodic 'Warrior Part 2' of Lloyd Banks featuring Eminem, Nate Dogg & 50 Cent, and the dark cogent sound of Cassidy's 'I'm A Hustla' also shine. 'I Can' from Nas is my most favorite because of it's electro melodic grooves; a track I listened to often.

Production almost seems pivotal on the R&B tracks of Alicia Keys and Usher with respect to their original form and the stripped down but soulful version of Amerie's '1 Thing' is commendable. However, with all that said, this is not the best remix album that I've heard, but at the basic levels of a remix production, the album does score, and at a time when the masses are craving sonic creativity and the faux hype of most mainstream artists is prevalent, Midnight Remixes: Volume One provides a much needed breathe of fresh air above the muddy waters of mediocrity. This album is a fine listen for us insomniac music junkies that leaves you thirsty for more; 7/10 rating for Gordon's creative undertaking.
