"Variscythe - Variscythe (EP) Review"

Koen: Variscythe is a new and young metal band from the The Hague (Holland) area. The band was founded back in 2008 and this their first self-released self-titled four track effort. The band consists of Robbert Simmons (vocals), Lloyd Mallée (guitars), Ika Pataridze (guitars), Youssry Askar (drums) and Johnny van den Berg (bass).

This is a very promising band: they mix heavy grooves and riffs with fine guitar melodies and quarrelsome vocals. They play some kind of technical thrash with a few minor death elements in their music. These are very skilled musicians that actually know how to play. This is no easy listening music but it’s highly original and captivating when you get into it. If you are interested in buying this demo, check out the band’s website, My Space page, Facebook page, Soundcloud page or Hyves page. - Lordsofmetal.nl

Bio

Variscythe was founded in 2008 By Ika, Youssry and Lloyd, after which Robbert and John completed the formation in 2009.

In September of 2010, they entered the Skatejam Wildcardshow at Speakers, Delft. They won the competition by popular vote and therefore got to play at the Skatejam festival, also in Delft.

During December, Variscythe recorded their first self-entitled EP at Double Impact Productions, Friesland. At the end of January the trunks were filled with 500 EP’s -AND- brandnew equipment, and the metalheads were ready to get back out there and play more gigs!

Halfway through 2011, Variscythe won the jury prize at the 'Moise' band contest, which was followed by playing the Moise Festival at Zaandam. Earlier in June, they played Duveltjesrock alongside Mother Of Sin, Erebus and many more.

After being selected as one of the finalists for the Peter Tetteroo Bokaal (Westerpop, Delft) Variscythe started preparing for their biggest show yet. By writing brand new material and at the same time playing gigs throughout Holland, Variscythe gave themselves a fighting chance at winning the PTB. Also part of the preparation was the pre-PTB show at De Supermarkt, The Hague. -Because of the success of this night, they had been asked to come back in October to play there again-
Westerpop itself was a big success for the band, the many newly acquired fans loved the energy coming from Variscythe.

At this point in time, Variscythe had designed their first official bandshirt (see photos), alongside The Distance Designs, which is now available at every upcoming show!

What does Variscythe have in store for 2012? More and bigger shows, and recording a full album somewhere in 2012. “In the meantime, we’ll play every damn show we like, and rock out as hard as we can. If you like metal.. Hell, even if you don’t, come see us at one of our shows!”
