Varvara

Varvara is an alternative rock band based in Hamina, Finland. The band was started in 2007 as a sideproject but has since evolved into its members’ number one interest. The line-up has stayed the same since spring 2008, and although this line-up is still pretty fresh, the members have each earned their stripes in other bands, playing homeland venues and festivals. On stage Varvara is intense and energetic with the focus always on the music.

During the last 18 months the band have been active developing their sound and they have been coming up with a lot of new material. They are reaching their first real milestone in February, 2010, when the digital EP “This City Offers No Comfort” comes out, released together with Playground Music Finland. In late February "Scavengers", the opening song of “This City Offers No Comfort” -EP was selected as song of the week in Nokia Music Store Finland. Varvara’s music combines elements of modern pop sound and rock music, creating a beautifully winding combination of the two while not forgetting heavier influence. Varvara creates a unique sound that really stands out from other groups in the genre. Their lyrics deal with urban stories, sometimes fictitious, but often very intimate as well.
