"Vas Vega @ NXNE"

Anyway, from there, we headed through Trinity Square Park to discover that NXNE's banner and information desk were there. I picked up a scheduling booklet, the concert listing looks incredibly daunting.

Vas Vega, minus the drummer, were performing a set for us. What a treat, except, it seems the passerbys just thought it was odd.

Highlight from their set were two covers: A medley of Zager & Evans' "In the Year 2525" and David Bowie's "Space Oddity" and Radiohead's "Karma Police" (which had a guest singer, Jay Edwards).

They ended their set with "Ordinary Boy".

Vas Vega will be performing at an official NXNE show at the Velvet Underground (510 Queen W) on Wednesday, along with Rehab For Quitters, Lava & Ash, mip, and We Were Heads. More information about Vas Vega at vasvega.com.

"Interrobang at NXNE - VAS VEGA"

June 14 - Vas Vega performed at Matt Cohen Park at Bloor & Spadina this afternoon as a part of the NXNE Park Series of concerts. Their third such performance so far this week, the band will be playing before afternoon music fans again at Harbour Parklands on Saturday June 18.

The duo - Jordan Holman and Mark LeRoy - played a short set of mostly original songs, though a couple of brilliant covers made their way into the set, including one case in which David Bowie's "Space Oddity" was blended into Zager & Evans' "In The Year 2525". The performance was a preview of the band's feature festival gig at The Velvet Underground June 15 at 9 p.m.

Vas Vega will be releasing their first single on June 28, accompanied by a music video shot in Los Angeles. The band's debut full-length is expected later this year, and as the duo have ties in London it's a safe bet we'll see them performing locally very soon. - Interrobang

"New Music - VAS VEGA"

This is one for all you aspiring indie bands out there: Jordan Holman and Mark LeRoy of the Toronto indie band Vas Vega sent their four song demo off to the five producers that they most wanted to work with. Remarkably, it all happened for them. Two months later they were in London recording with Chris Potter (Rolling Stones, U2, The Verve). with the first taste from that session the beautiful single above. The video was directed by Jonathan Bensimon.

"VAS VEGA - NXNE Review"

Between June 13 and June 19, 2011, the 17th annual NXNE festival rocked Toronto. 650 national and international bands from a wide range of genres took over 50 festival stages in downtown Toronto. While large crowds rocked out to Devo, Men Without Hats, f**ked Up, and alike at the open air concert stage at Yonge and Dundas Square, music lovers also gathered in the many live music venues in Toronto to discover new talent from around the world. Here is a selection of bands that came to impress:

Toronto band Vas Vega played a set of their melodic rock music. Vas Vega is comprised of Jordan Holman and Mark LeRoy, who create beautiful soundscapes with piano driven music, guitar and vocal harmonies of the two singers. On June 28, 2011, Vas Vega will be premiering their first video for their song THE LIVING DEAD, which is a very memorable catchy tune with an underlying sadness that makes the song very special. Last year, the band spent in London, UK, to record with Chris Potter who has previously worked with The Verve, U2, and the Rolling Stones. Watch out for music to be released from this band in the future and if you have a chance to catch them live, you are in for a treat. - www.indiesolo.com

Bio

VAS VEGA is Jordan Holman and Mark LeRoy:

We've been trying to figure out a way to explain us, but realized Jack White did it best: 'All the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.' Basically, we decided joining forces seemed a better option than competing in the same playground.

So, consumed by our perilous romances, disturbed desires, hopes and fears, we began to feed our addiction of writing lush music that mocks genres, around a piano in Mark's Grandma's Senior Home in London, Ontario.

We still don't understand it, but a month later we were at The Shed, an insanity lab of imagination, in London, UK, teamed with our brother, Chris Potter (Rolling Stones, The Verve, U2).

This first project is going to be something exceptional, an equinox of hypnotic riffs and pure vocals. We are paranoid, with massive expectations on story and sound, trying to scare each other where we will go. The past year has been the beginning of that journey.

We want to share it with you, wrest the spotlight and give it back, by the songs we write at night to the stage we lay them down on, by our stupidity in sabotaging the notion to give in to our brotherhood. Let's roll it out this way, "The stars are dancing and the film is rolling, a voice is heard through the silence that is about to be broken."

Welcome to VAS VEGA, our personal wreckage of destiny.

Jordan and Mark
