VAUGHAN HOY'S MUSIC IS a hypnotic blend of thickly polyphonic acoustic and electric instruments traveling a transcendental path. His songs traverse this cosmic trail from the inspired age of Donovan, Jefferson Airplane to Nick Drake, Cocteau Twins, Ry Cooder to Pink Floyd to the 'now' of contemporary lndie song writing. Vaughan's music is grounded in acoustic writing first. He is a prolific new artist with three albums and three singles to his credit between 2012 and 2016. His third album Where To Now released in 2016 charted #15 on the Top 30 in Nova Scotia and #21 on the Top 30 in Alberta on Earshot. He performs both solo, and when the universe aligns, with collaborating artists.
Vaughan was born in British Columbia and grew up in Western Australia, England, and the United States. His musical interests come from the influences of his father who's first career was as a concert pianist. Vaughan's initial musical training was predominantly in the classical genre, learning piano, baritone and later trumpet, in his teens folk guitar. Dropping all of these instruments he focussed intensely on the cello and classical repertoire for solo cello for fifteen years. Thirsty for more polyphonic sound and creating his own contemporary music he migrated back to the guitar in search of artistic liberation. He is a graduate of the University of British Columbia, has travelled and studied extensively around the world, and has been fusing these experiences into his unique music and song writing. His recording projects have been produced under his own label, FOSS Music, and up until the album Where To Now, acting as his own producer and recording engineer out of necessity.
