V C Strut Band (VCSB)

BandHip HopFunk

The V C Strut Band is a funky rhythm section with blazin' horns that leave the crowd wanting more. Our influences include Earth, Wind & Fire, Sublime, James Brown, Reel Big Fish, Jay-Z, Slick Rick, and Digital Underground. People say our shows blow them away.

Biography

The V C Strut Band assembled in 2001 and evolved into a HipHop/Funk Thang. With danceable songs, choreography, and jam sensibility, we get a crowd involved. Because of our diverse backgrounds, our influences range from James Brown to Jay-z, and from Sublime to Mighty Mighty Boss Tones... which makes for a unique and unforgetable sound. Apart from numerous club and private parties, we have played at larger regional festivals including Rites of Spring at Vanderbilt, Mom's/Thirsty Melon Music Festival in Louisville, and River Stages Nashville.

Lyrics

Funk is What it Is

Written By: V C Strut Band

My letter to the editor,
And to all the competitors,
From the king of the metaphors
In the land of the predators,
May you rest in peace nevermore.
I reach in my heart and let it pour
Through songs and literature.
Page after page,
You can all feel the rage
And the fire and desire
That’s left upon a stage
Wherever we play.
People have swayed,
We always made the grade.
I’m ready for war
Like Nicholas Cage,
And if you’re afraid
We can sense the fear,
We're so sincere.
Laughing like we’re pimps in here,
It’s Klassic in here,
We’re massive in here.
You can talk behind my back as if we care
About what you thought,
Because what we brought
Is a whole nuther level to the game.
You’re just a spark,
Why meddle with a flame
Spitter,
Hard-Hitter.
Don’t make me have to hit ya.

(Chorus)
Ain’t nothing like, Ain’t nothing like, our music, our music
“Funk is what it is” (repeat)

2nd verse
Ready to face off then take off like Delta.
You could run for shelter,
But it still won’t help ya.
Now it’s the Helter Skelta
That’s sent to melt ya.
At 9,000 degrees,
3,000 emcees
Would all feel the wrath,
Unless they clear the path
Of Kyhil.
You don’t want to deal with that.
It’s VCSB – and you can do the math
Of all the casualties
That’s battled me,
And now they mad at me
Because I had to be
Gradually
Becoming the majesty
Of those
Who chose
To oppose
And be foes.
We know how to keep those at bay,
Reload and spray.
Lyrical ammunition.
Plus it’s my ambition
That put me in the position
To be making corporate decisions,
Morph into visions
Of kings and gods.
Things ain’t hard
As we think they are.
We can all be superstars.

(Chorus)

3rd verse
One two three it’s the top of the line,
so do it one more time
Off the top of the mind.
Seek and you shall find,
And then you can climb
To a level that’s way ahead of your time.
Way more than beats and rhymes.
Had to impeach my mind.
Now I can see,
But I once was blind
To the ways of mankind.
Also the ways that I’m
Supposed to grow up,
But ain’t it funny
How you drop out,
And then you blow up.
But you know what?
I ain’t even trying to listen
To someone trying to tell me
How to make my own decisions.
When I was in school,
Sure I had a vision
To be a musician,
Not some kind of mathematician.
I’m not saying you don’t need college,
Some kids do
To be doctors
And lawyers.
And that’s cool,
But I’m like Kobe,
I’m coming out early.
I was blessed with the skills
To be amongst the best,
And I’m already worthy.
Man without vision
Shall perish,
That’s why I cherish
Every moment
Without the gold and carats
In my watch.
Cause when I grab the mike time stops…

(Chorus)

Sinner Man

Written By: V C Strut Band

VERSE:
Now at the end of the day,
once all the dust settles,
it seems like we've made a deal
to dance with the devil.
Now our soul's lost,
just like Hansel and Gretle
without the breadcrumbs.
So now the wet buns have become
human bombs and AK-47s;
we can't find Osama,
so we settle for Saddam.
Hmm, Democratic or even Republican?
It doesn't even matter,
I don't trust either one.

I believe in one
with more power than a bush,
and if you don't know your history
you might just wanna look.
My heart goes out for the
towers that was took,
but that's no excuse
for the power that they pushed.
They bleed the middle-class
for little cash:
look at the prices of gas.
How long will it last?
Fifty kids in a class,
and you expect to reach and teach
every young mind
with no child left behind?

Quit lyin'!

CHORUS:
I just got to get away
from the troubles of everyday,
but I was born not to be afraid.
And at times it's hard to carry on,
something inside says be strong
and I find a way, to move on (move on).
There's someone worse than me
living in the world of poverty.
Someone could use a hand,
trapped in this world of the Sinner Man.
Some one could use some help,
but we're to busy thinkin' about ourselves.
Some one could use a hand,
livin' in the world of the Sinner Man.

VERSE:
We got so many people,
who think they "all that".
I guess they never experienced
any of life's draw-backs.
Bank full of money,
really got it goin' on,
but you won't miss your water
until your well is gone.

You got part-time Christians,
who claim they know the way to heaven;
sinning all week long,
then drop they problems off with the reverend.
It don't work like that,
at least the last time I checked.
It's so easy to be evil,
that's why the whole world's in a mess.

They tell me:

CHORUS:
I just got to get away
from the troubles of everyday,
but I was born not to be afraid.
And at times it's hard to carry on,
something inside says be strong
then I find the will, to move on (move on).
There's someone worse than me
living in the world of poverty.
Someone could use a hand:
they're trapped in this world of the Sinner Man.
Some one could use some help,
but we're to busy thinkin' about ourselves.
Some one could use a hand,
trapped in this world of the Sinner Man.

The wages of sin is death.
