Bio

VELA is here! With an album produced by Canadian rock legend Gordie Johnson at Willie Nelson's famous Pedernales studio in Austin, Texas, big things are already happening for this band - barely a year into it's existence. Their debut album, "When The Lights Go Out_", introduces the listener to "Flaco", a conceptual character, and the events that shaped his life. With lyrics written by different members of the band, Flaco's journey is in fact an amalgamation of pieces of each member's past. The ongoing story slowly reveals insights into their experiences with life, love, hope and loss. The band boasts an exceptional lead singer, Andrew Misle, whose pure voice conveys the depth that each song demands. The album presents itself with honesty, whether subtle or chaotic, and accomplishes the task of presenting the fundamental vision of five musicians in one unified album.

Members Andrew Misle, Tyler Wollmann, and brothers Alex and Nyles Varughese have been creating music and touring together for the better part of a decade, bringing a high level of experience and professionalism to this band. With the recent addition of drummer Tom Lincoln and a new intense rehearsal schedule their live performances are bigger, louder, more powerful, and even more exciting than their album. They have put in hours upon hours of dedicated preparation, and the result is a show that features four part harmonies, an extremely polished musical core, and a singer who's voice portrays an immense array of emotion with incredible ease.

With a well-received CD release party in Edmonton, Alberta in March of 2008, the band proved that they were ready to start playing their music to bigger audiences. They had that chance less than a month later when they performed in an opening slot for legendary rock band The Cult. The show was not only a hit with everyone in attendance, but it also garnered positive feedback from the members of the local media. This event has brought a new drive to all the members of the band, who have now ramped up their efforts to seek out anyone who is interested in their music. Whether you're already a fan, or have never heard of VELA before, this band has the power to pull you in, rock you hard, and keep you coming back for more.
