Velia Kalypso

Velia Kalypso, she who conceals--mysterious woman. A Singer Songwriter that performs and writes in English and Spanish. Creating a unique blend of Latin inspired instrumentation and varied vocal melodies, she writes Latin Pop & Rock. Velia Kalypso grew up in Hacienda Heights surrounding herself with music to help her fight through constant battles. At the young age of 13, she picked up a guitar, notebook, and pen and began to explore various inspiring artists. She was always surrounded by Spanish music at home, some of her first idols were; Celia Cruz, Buena Vista Social Club, and Juan Gabriel. In middle school she was exposed to English music, opening up her ears to a new world. Some of the first English singing idols were; Etta James, Nina Simone, Fiona Apple, and Erykah Badu. Later she continued to listen to a mixture of both languages and found her muse through artists like; Juanes, Julieta Vengegas, and Carlos Santana. Constantly having to face obstacles, she was determined to continue her pursuit of music so she left home to study her passion at LACM. From her high school years playing solo cover shows to current day performing original music with her band, Velia Kalypso is the missing spice to your playlist.
