Biography

Brooklyn-based rock trio VELTA are releasing their second E.P., "Come Alive", and the video for its first single, "Cheat On Me", on iTunes beginning April 6. After releasing their first E.P. as a two-piece just 7 months ago, Emily Long (guitar/vox) and Zach Jones (drums/vox) called upon their dear friend Derek Blauser (bass) to round out the group's sound a bring a different sensibility to the mix. The results, the band and its fans agree, are thrilling.

Listening to VELTA today, one can certainly hear elements of the 90s influences the group grew up listening to. Inspired by everything from Sonic Youth and Superchunk to Fountains of Wayne and Big Star, VELTA brings a modern, power-pop twist to a classic grunge sound. Lyrically, Long's writing is as strong as ever, bringing a playful, tongue-in-cheek attitude to songs that are thick with sarcasm or laden with vulnerability. The E.P's first single, "Cheat On Me", puts a playful mask on the heartbreaking tale of trying to escape a passionless relationship.

In less than a year together, and less than 6 months as a three-piece, the group has garnered unanimous acclaim from fans and critics. Emily Long was featured in September's music-themed issue of Vogue Italia, and the group's very first single, "Dead Ringer", was featured in NYLON Magazine's December mix tape. VELTA has also had the privilege of supporting some of their favorite groups, including Cheap Girls and the Sidekicks.

DEAD RINGER

DEAD RINGER

Its gonna last longer than a week
Its gonna be harder than you have been thinking
Its gonna work for a little while
Its gonna be easier to keep on meeting
yeah yeah yeah

What'll I do with you
What'll I do with you

Palms are drumming
voices humming low
Forget you felt it
let it go
I'm still waiting eyes wide and gaping
shut them tight
feels almost right
Dead Ringer
Dead Ringer

What a shock when its stays with me
when its not one of those feelings so fleeting
burning out
terrible relief
I'm searching harder now to find its meanings

yeah yeah yeah

What'll I do with you
What'll I do with you

Palms are drumming
voices humming low
Forget you felt it let it go
I'm still waiting eyes wide and gaping
shut them tight
feels almost right
Dead Ringer
Dead Ringer

Oooohh oooohh....

RIBBONS

RIBBONS

A ribbon's knot
I haven't untied it
name it and I've tried it
feels like I'm dying
feels like I'm dying

Consolations won't ever reach me
hit so hard beneath
in such rapid fire

I am weaving through the swarms
a soldier in my arms

I am better off planting flags near the mines
I am better off without blood in my eyes
a ribbon on my shooting side

Timing and measuring the spaces
forty, fifty paces
bury the weapons
where no one can get them

fill the tanks and ignite the starter
I will be your martyr
I'll be your martyr

hiding in the tombs
breathing in the fumes

I am better off planting flags near the mines
I am better off without blood in my eyes
a ribbon on my shooting side
