Biography

VERDE3 is one of the most promising, original, and advanced new acts in latin / indie pop today, with a unique sound, outstanding vocal blend, precious song & lyric writing, and distinctive sonic style which has earned them a cult reputation in their native Bogota, Colombia, where they played Teatro Colon (Colombia National Theatre) for six consecutive years (2002 to 2007), having played 30 live shows in 2006 and over 40 shows in 2008 including Mexico's prestigious Festival Cervantino.

With remarkably original and heartfelt songs delivered in English and Spanish, VERDE3 define themselves basically as "a songlab whose aim is to make you feel very intense things."

VERDE3 are a modern song duet who are paving an entirely new road in Latin music, in what they call a "new viewpoint with respect to popular songs."

Their playful approach towards style and forward-thinking production ideas and values make them quite simply "a truly original band that plays fantastic popular songs for the general public."

Their unique sound is influenced by two main forces which drive them: Diana Galan (vocals, art direction, writing, arranging, minimoog)'s love for Hispanic popular singers (Rocio Durcal and Juan Gabriel to name a few) blended with Carlos Champi Benavides (vocals, musical and recording direction, writing, arranging, rickenbacker 360)'s passion for developing original songs: pop to the point of perfection (The Smiths, Nick Drake, Mecano, Charly Garcia, Air).

The songs are played and recorded live and then perfected in the studio, more as resolution of the live work; the stage and the mixing desk are thus VERDE3's home.

The band play live all the time, completely at ease with touring dynamics & constant gigging; their last international appearance onstage was as live music set in a Colombian theatre piece which participated in the prestigious Festival Cervantino in Mexico, October 2008.

After their first U.S. appearance at the crucial SXSW MUSIC + FILM + INTERACTIVE CONFERENCE in Austin, VERDE3 is ready to play all over the world.

From their six consecutive years playing and recording their live shows at the Colombia National Theatre (Teatro Colon, Colombia's most important stage), and adding a selection of studio tapes, Verde3 released their "Radio Verde3 Vol. 1" last year, to critical acclaim, allowing them to become a crucial band in their native Bogota. All was self-produced, from the writing to the recordings, soundmix and graphic design.

VERDE3 achievements include: opening act for LADYTRON Bogota 2006; 4 singles aired on Colombian FM (plus two live sessions on national radio); their song "Viernes Por la Noche" included as one of the best 10 songs of 2007 on Colombia's RADIONICA FM's listeners' poll; "Angelito" as part of a Colombian award-winning short film, also included in a special CD curated by the Spanish Embassy in Colombia in 2005; TV appearance in worldwide Telecolombia playing live, 2008.

With an impending second recording in the works (Diana and Champi sharing their writing and arranging tasks), their new single "PRIMAVERA" complete with music video / live show, and their will to play any kind of space and environment, VERDE3 aims to make their music as massive as possible: a popular music outfit at the end of the day.

Verde3 plans to play music festivals everywhere possible! We're easy to move around and can we sing! ;)

MARGARITA

Written By: Carlos Benavides (Champi)

MARGARITA
sung by VERDE3
composed by CARLOS BENAVIDES (champi)

(English Translation)
I once had a Maragarita but then she left
she was the prettiest, she was my fatih
suddenly one afternoon Margarita parted
she said nothing to anyone
she let no-one know
suddenly and without saying good-bye she went away
I loved my Margarita more than love
who knows if some coward took her away
one day from town to town i searched and searched
I searched her in Santa Marta
I searched her in Santa Fe
and since I could not find her I wept...
a year after looking for her I gave up
tired, I returned to my land
I spent my whole days singing to her endlessly:
"the day that you left
life has lost its beat
the little birds have flown away from the window
the nights I spend weeping
the days I weep too
it can't be that you will never come back...
I will go to Santa Marta
and then to Santa Fe
and one of these days, I swear to you
I shall find you."

MAR

Written By: CARLOS BENAVIDES (CHAMPI)

MAR
sung by VERDE3
composed by CARLOS BENAVIDES (CHAMPI)

me dirijo al mar
porque allí te voy a llamar / llevar

mi amor
te golpeaban sin piedad, tu les decias:
"no pierdo el control"
maltratada sin piedad, siempre decias.
"no pierdo el control"

DOWNSTAIRS

Written By: CARLOS CHAMPI BENAVIDES

DOWNSTAIRS
I'VE SEEN YOU WALKING DOWN THE STREET
THE LOOSE SHOELACES AT YOUR FEET
YOU WANNA DANCE TO A BRAND NEW BEAT
SO YOU GO DOWN TO THE HOLE

AND NOW THE SPRINGTIME'S IN THE AIR
THE FLOWERS ARE OUT BUT YOU'RE NOT THERE
YOU'RE NEVER THERE
YOU'RE WALKING DOWN IN CIRCLES AS
YOU MOVE SO DELICATELY
CLIMBING DOWNSTAIRS

luna, se siente sola
se siente sola
y se pone a cantar

canta, llora,
no se consuela
sola se queda
contemplando la mar

"yo le canto a un marino que me amó
que escribía para mí
me hacía
versos de amor
una noche de oscura tempestad
el mar
enfureció
y a mi amor se llevó..."

luna
tiene una pena
y es una pena
una pena de amor
cómo
cómo quisiera
cómo pudiera
aliviarle el dolor

"luna quiero catantarte una canción
luna no llores más, no estés
triste jamás
mira
que ese marino que se fue
desde el
fondo del mar
te oye cantar..."

dedicated with immense love to María del Pilar Benavides.

PRIMAVERA

hay un aire en mi andar

que habla de tu llegar

(h)ay primavera

quiera tu luz volver

para reverdecer

a esta alma sin fe

sin esperanza

primavera vuelve

con tu pulso de

sangre

ay que me aviva

llévate este dolor

tiempo nuevo llegó

con su traje de amores

con su jardín

y sus miles de flores

flores del mar

mares de verde

fin de mi soledad

canta en mi corazón

tiempo nuevo llegó

con su aire delirante

las caricias del sol

y la lluvia cantante

oye la voz

que llorando te nombra

trae un poquito de luz

a esta vida e la sombra

vida tú.

"sí, piensa en mí."
