Bio

From humble beginnings in 2005, VERSUS THE WOLF has proven to be a band well worth the praises they have received from an ever-growing base of loyal fans over the years. With 3 music videos under their belt and having played hundreds of shows, they've paid their dues and are well equipped to "bring the rock" wherever they perform.

They managed to successfully invent themselves as New Altum but gained real momentum after they reinvented themselves as VERSUS THE WOLF in 2010 with their debut album, UNCOVERING FACES. This project is considered by the industry to be fresh and progressive and is taking the South African and international music world by storm. This album was also recently nominated for a 2011 South African Music Award (SAMA) for best Album Art & packaging.

After having toured & shared the stage with top local & international acts such as Johnny Foreigner, Pendulum, Becoming the Archetype, aKing, Van Coke Kartel, Isochronous, Jack Parow and having either headlining or perform at top South African music festivals such as SplashyFen 2011, Ramfest, Woodstock & Arisefest, VERSUS THE WOLF have proven time and time again that they have no problem putting crowds in excess of 7 000 people into a frenzy. Among many other achievements they have also appeared on international & national television channels such as SABC1, SABC 2, SABC 3, MK and ETV.

The first single off Uncovering Faces, the new album, was rated 97% “HOT” on top local radio station 5FM.
VERSUS THE WOLF's sound is best described as a mix of progressive, experimental and emotive rock infused with intense passion and conviction. Their musical influences soar across the board and are influenced by bands such as As Cities Burn, Mew, Thrice, Muse, Underoath and, on the other end of the scale, bands such as Bon Iver, Iron and Wine and The Album Leaf. Listeners can always expect something fresh and thought-provoking to come out of a VERSUS THE WOLF performance.

Apart from recently selected to perform as one of the headlining bands at South Africas prestige Splash Fen Music Festival, some of Versus The Wolf’s other achievements include:

* Being nominated for a South African Music Award (SAMA) 2011 for best album art / packaging.
* Successfully headlining Arisefest, a music festival held in Pietermaritzburg over the New Year holiday, for two
years in a row - along with Die Straatligkinders, the Arrows, and John Ellis, to crowds in excess of 5 000 people.
* Accepted an invitation to be the guest band in the Global Moguls competition and opened for local hero, Jack
Parrow, to a crowd in excess of 2 000 people at Ratanga junction.
* As a result of a SOLD OUT album launch for UNCOVERING FACES in September 2010, the directors of Global
Moguls have approached VERSUS THE WOLF to do a two-week tour of London, UK in 2011, as well as a
national Varsity tour.
* Live performances & interviews on Teen talk show hectic9nine, Top Billing's new breakfast show
Expresso - as well as MK's show My MK Celeb (in 2009)
* Media publications include features in Playground magazine, SL magazine's DVD feature, Purity magazine,
Mission music magazine (with cover shot), RE-flect magazine, Truth magazine, Gust magazine, Vision magazine,
