Bio

Winters in Edmonton, for anyone crazy enough to visit one of the most Northern capital cities in North America, are cold. Chill you down to the bones -40 kind of cold that makes you want to get into your warm, dry, thermostat influenced home and never leave. Much like the rain in Seattle pushed kids into garages to start grunge bands, the cold in Edmonton sends the musical youth into basements across the spread out landscape seeking an escape from the elements. Very Dangerous Animals, a group consisting of Doc De Groot, Jeff Kynoch and brothers Rhys and Rory Brown, is one of those groups.

After putting their improvised group on hiatus, the Browns started rehearsing songs Rory was writing about broken hearts, growing older and favourite novels, with odd time signatures and weird meter changes as Les Mathematiques. Les Mathematiques played a set in the basement of Rhys' tiny rented house during a house party which Doc happened to attend. A conversation occurred between the three and Doc joined turning "Les Maths" into Very Dangerous Animals.

After a number shows garnering positive reviews with comparisons to The National and Godspeed You Black Emperor, Very Dangerous Animals settled down to work on some new material inviting Jeff Kynoch into the basement to see what he could bring to the mix. A full arrangement of sounds came out and came out loud. Jeff became the forth member of the band contributing to the ear-ringing, stuck-in-your-head rock that is Very Dangerous Animals.
