Bio

You could say Vessels exists because of a pack of candy cigarettes. Given to Marissa as a gift, this was no ordinary candy vice - with its pale blue and cream packaging with an antique quality to it. The face of the box said 'Vessel' and had a lonely clipper ship underneath it. Years later, never opened and displayed on Marissa's vanity table, the name, the image and the "nicotine" seemed to fit the style and feel that Marissa was looking to achieve with her music--sweet and innocent at the core, yet maintaining a sinister and infectious quality.
Heavily influenced by artists such as Beirut, Belle and Sebastian, Arcade Fire and Sleeping States, their music is a part of the popular and rising genre of indie rock that mixes classical instrumentation with more traditional indie rock guitars and melodies.

The major element that separates Vessels from the others however is Ciannella's writing style and voice. With soul sick vocals and lyrics, there is a nakedness that seems particularly feminine to her songs. The songs themselves expand traditional boundaries by using classical instrumentation in an unconventional and whimsical way.

Together less than a year, Vessels has already played respectable NYC venues such as Piano's, Pete's Candy Store, Bar 4 and Union Hall. Their Union Hall show was a very exciting event. They opened for Uninhabitable Mansions who are members of "Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah" and "Au Revoire Simone". Their shows continue to be successful and you will see them more and more in the future.
