Vestal Vermin

BandRockPunk

Vestal Vermin are a punk rock quartet from Baltimore that write songs about love, hate and Kate's favorite waittress. Described as a mix between the Sex Pistols and the Power Puff Girls, take a listen as to why they are "Picking Outfits for the Apocalypse".

Biography

The concept for Vestal Vermin was formed on New Year’s Eve 2000 after the world did not come to an end at a bar in South Baltimore called Mum’s. At 4 o’clock in the morning, forming an all-female rock band seemed like a good idea to Vestal Vermin’s three original founders, Kate Tallent, Hannah Feldman and Tracy Deemer. It didn’t matter that none of them had ever played their respective instruments of guitar, lead singer or drums before. However, they needed a bass player and enlisted Kate’s long time friend Kathie Lee into playing the bass for the band. After the group’s first show, another friend of theirs, Colleen Pelser, was asked to join the group and play more of a lead guitar role. The chemistry worked and the band was with this line-up for several years.

The group recorded their first CD, “Picking Outfits for the Apocalypse” in 2002. Most of the songs are fast and aggressive with themes of love, lousy boyfriends, Elvis obsessions and Kate’s favorite waitress. Their signature song “Sensible Shoes”, tells the tale of how not to ruin one’s love life. After another year, Kate left the band to pursue other artistic interests. “Picking Outfits for the Apocalypse” highlights the band’s punk beginnings. The current Vestal Vermin are working on new songs with an expansion of musical format and they are playing these songs in their live shows. A new CD is being planned for Fall 2004. In the meantime, Vestal Vermin has been busy playing live shows at the Ottobar, the Mojo Room, Frazier’s on the Avenue and their first venue, Mum’s. Vestal Vermin has also been featured twice on local radio station, WRNR and has been the main force behind a local fundraiser for the House of Ruth called Estrofest.

Lyrics

Hell Out of Dodge

Written By: Vestal Vermin

Speed limit 60 don't you drive too fast
Blasting from the past to parts unknown
These signs going by
Would be landmarks
If I'd stayed home.

Mama says, "You look thinner since I saw you last.
"How's the job? Have you met a guy?"
Funny how our memories
Like to keep on feeding us
The same old lies.

I know the names of these towns though I've never been
Didn't have a car when I lived here last
Another woman would know them
Would know where her heart was
And stay there
Stay under the speed limit
Which is set at 60
Don't you drive too fast.

Sensible Shoes

Written By: Vestal Vermin

Sensible shoes will hurt your love life
Sensible shoes will hurt your love life
Never wear anything less than an inch high
Sensible shoes will kill your sex life

Sensible shoes will hurt your love life
Sensible shoes will hurt your love life
Never wear anything less than an inch high
Sensible shoes will kill your sex life

I knew a girl who couldn’t get it right
Stayed at home every single night
I looked at her and I told her outright
Those sensible shoes they’re killing your sex life

Sensible shoes will hurt your love life
Sensible shoes will hurt your love life
Never wear anything less than an inch high
Sensible shoes will kill your sex life

No Good

Written By: Vestal Vermin

I wish that I knew what to tell you
I wish that I knew what to do
I wish that I knew how to sell you
I bet I'd get a pretty good price for you
But baby, you're no good to me.

I wish that you made me feel stronger
I wish that you made me feel whole
I wish that you made me write love songs
That melted the heart and touched the soul
But baby, you're no good to me.

Between what you are and what I need
Is everything that's wrong with me
I wish that you were a little more useful
I wish that I was a little more truthful
But baby, you're no good to me.

I wish that I knew what to tell you
As we sit across the table and I stare at you
I wish that you'd give me reason to leave you
Cause I think I could if I wanted to
Cause baby, you're no good to me.
