"These Vets are no rookies in this Rap game"

The easy way for me to do this review and call it a day, would be for me to compare Vets of Kin to known super crews like Wu-Tang Clan, Boot Camp Click or West Coast syndicates like The Living Legends and Freestyle Fellowship. Although there are certain similarities, like the ferocity they bring to mics or the synergy between each artist, the Vets of Kin bring their own flavor to the rhyme feast. To the people that grew up listening to that signature sound of the mid ’90s, “Pestilence” will supply plenty of that true gritty gritty Hip-Hop feel found in its purest form. Hailing from Central Florida, the Vets present various addictive forms of music that intoxicate the listener in a myriad of ways.

The Vets of Kin consist of MyGrane McNastee, MURDOC, AMiAM, JBiz, Shinobi Stalin, P! , Tone Blare, Clarity, John Z. Delorean, Unique Assassin & Word Chemist. That’s a lineup you don’t want mess with! These kids are here to prove to you that they ain’t no joke. Every emcee coming out of this crew is unique and groundbreaking. Through a combination of battle conscious lyrics, dope beats, this compilation should connect with a large and diverse fan base.

The thick beats and energetic rhymes have all of the creative power that today’s independent and underground hip-hop needs. “Pestilence” is an album filled with passion, soul, love, hate, and most of all STRENGTH. All of the 18 tracks show this same type of lyrical creativity and supreme production. Every track on this album is hot, both lyrically and in regards to production that’s handled by too many to name, so it’s hard to pick out any favorites without naming the entire track list; hence, there’s many different vibes that they’ve each taken and made their own.

Stilos are all executed with much skill, and would make the biggest hater struggle to truly find something to moan about. The amount of work that has obviously gone into “Pestilence,” coupled with the self-assured confidence their rhymes exude over each beat, make it basically impossible to play this and not find yourself getting lost within it. Essentially, “Pestilence” is not a run-of-the-mill compilation. Overall, it’s an exceptional underground hip-hop release, but an even stronger indication of the potential of the Vets of Kin. After indulging in this release, take time to look up each individual as, they have independent material as well. Get ready for the takeover!!! - Insomniac Magazine
