BandRockAlternative

Melodic, powerful and catchy female vocals in front of big rock guitars with some electronica edge. Lyrics that are not only catchy but clever altogether. A beautiful act from a place you'll never expect.

Biography

A No. 1 video on MTV Latin America and five weeks among the channel’s 10 most requested videos.
Nominees to the 2011 Nuestra Tierra Awards.
Six nominations for the 2010 SHOCK Awards.
Winners of the 2010 SHOCK Award for Recording of the Year. Opening act for Placebo.
“The best indie band of 2009,” according to leading daily El Tiempo, and “the most promising band of 2010,” according to SHOCK Magazine.

In short, V for Volume is Colombia’s most promising rock/pop band. And they rock in English and Spanish.
It’s not what you’d expect from a group that crafted its sound in the underground rock spheres of Bogotá, Colombia, nestled high in the middle of the Andes.
But for citizens of the world, there is perhaps no better common language than music.

So, when five friends--hailing from Jewish, Arabic and Spanish backgrounds—got together to form a band, they decided to sing in English, the universal language of rock ‘n roll, and in doing so, they’re shaking the foundations of Latin rock to their core.
Drummer Jonathan Specktor, bassist Hans Vollert, guitarist Juan Camilo Osman, guitarist and programmer Nicolás Corredor and singer María José Camargo began making music together like countless groups have done before them: In their garages, in school, in bars and endless gigs and battle of the bands.
They drew from hardcore, metal, punk, pop and—inevitably—an inescapable touch of Colombia. Although the band sings predominantly in English, Spanish also makes its way into their songs when needed, and when the music calls for it.

Regardless of the language, today, V for Volume is like their name: Loud, in your face, rebellious, but also, eminently melodic, boasting an original sound that’s both lush and brash, with powerful guitars and Maria’s vocals, an alluring mix of innocence and gritty sensuality. Quite simply, there’s nothing else like it coming out of Latin America.
?
"Their music is universal and their lyrics come from the heart,” says David Bendeth, producer for Carl Cox, Paramore and Papa Roach. “Maria is a rising star. Watch out for these rising stars!”
?
V for Volume’s many facets are captured in the group’s debut album, “Providence,” produced, recorded and mixed by Mateo Camargo of alt rock band Madina Lake, whose contribution was key in developing a world-class signature sound. “We grew up on gigs with mosh pits, stage diving, hardcore, metal kind of vibe,” says Juan Camilo. "When we were kids NO bands would come to Colombia, so we had to learn to do things the hard way. We were influenced by foreign music but we didn't have a clue on how the industry worked. We didn't have good instruments to buy in Colombia, there were no venues, no rehearsal studios, everything sounded like crap. We had to learn everything from scratch, and build the goddamn movement/scene by ourselves.”??

At a time when indie bands are redefining the music we hear, V for Volume’s grit and pioneering instincts couldn’t be more dead-on, and the group’s unique sound, musical range and stage presence has led top music critics to label them the next big thing. ?“V for Volume has the stage presence of a band ready to swallow the world,” wrote Shock Magazine. “Definitely a great project for the alt scene, that can also be commercially successful.” ?However, V for Volume’s acclaim isn’t only critical. The group has shared the stage with the likes of Green Day, Jamiroquai and Zoe and their songs and videos have topped both radio and MTV charts. With the single “Cheap Universe” they won Radio CAN’s Best English Song Award for 2010. ??

Now, as V for Volume launches its new single and video, “Handbook," in Colombia, it is readying the release “Providence,” in the U.S. and Latin America, supported by their first single "Cheap Universe" and a North and South American tour. Already, viral success is following in places as far-flung as Australia, Germany, Brazil, Argentina and, of course, England and the U.S.

“The letter V…we wanted something big,” says the band unanimously, speaking not only about their name but about the sound itself. ?“We love loud! Turn up the volume!”

Cheap Universe

CHEAP UNIVERSE

I always dreamed to being practical…. Logical….
You wanted me married, you wanted me quiet
You wanted me buried, so you got a riot!

(Cheap universe)

Go to hell or let me go to hell alone,
Why do we have to go together?
This world is made for those who don’t feel at all

Go to hell I would be another girl if I could
But clearly I can’t help myself…
This is a cheap universe
This world I made for those who don’t feel at all!
This is a cheap universe
Cheap universe

You wanted my taxes, you wanted my sins
You wanted my prayers, so you got me clean

Go to hell or let me go to hell alone,
Why do we have to go together?
This world is made for those who don’t feel at all!

Go to hell I would be another girl if I could
But clearly I can’t help myself
This is a cheap universe
This world I made for those who don’t feel at all!
This is a cheap universe
Cheap universe

Loving Car Crashes

Written By: Lyrics by Maria Jose Camargo / Music by V FOR VOLUME

LOVING CAR CRASHES

Oh thank god, I’m glad this is over
All this time, faking every single smile
I’m not saying you weren’t that great
As they say, accidents can change your life
Your hands are sweating and you’re getting blue
I’m here too, taking every step you take
This is it
You’re the greatest thing I’m in

As I’m getting closer
God! there’s so much to thank you for…
This is me exposing wounds I love

Look over there, I think now it’s snowing
Little pieces of glass falling over
There goes the steering wheel through the window
And the gas pedal’s crashing
So here it is
That’s it!

And I’m closer
God! there’s so much to thank you for
This is me exposing wounds I love
Looking at you is like watching a car crash
I don’t want to look but when it’s there I’m helpless

I’m helpless

As I’m getting closer
God! there’s so much to thank you for
This is me exposing wounds I love…

Looking at you is like watching a car crash
I don’t want to look but when it’s there I’m helpless

A Sleepless Midnight Punkromance

Written By: Lyrics by Maria Jose Camargo / Music by V FOR VOLUME

A SLEEPLESS MIDNIGHT PUNKROMANCE

This goes to the sleepless
This goes to the souls with wishes
Oh! This is no song for you lovers
You can sing twenty thousand others

Come on there it goes again, no!
The heartbreak, the void, the sweat,
Oh oh! Stop! This is where I start to wonder… will your beautiful face burn like a thunder?

Death whispered a lullaby
And the lullaby is you

Bam bam, thank you m’am
Bam bam thank you m’am
no guilt for you sir
no tears for you sir
bam bam, thank you m’am
bam bam thank you m’am
No guilt for you sir
No kiss for you sir

My life has become Madame Tussaud’s museum for my private collection of midnight punk romances

Death whispered a lullaby
And the lullaby is you

Bam bam, thank you m’am
Bam bam thank you m’am
No guilt for you sir
No tears for you sir
Bam bam, thank you m’am
Bam bam thank you m’am
No guilt for you sir
No kiss for you sir

My life has become Madame Tussaud’s museum

And you said “honey, could you stay tonight?”
I said “I’m sorry baby, I have to work this time”
And there I go again:
Me, my pillow and a terrible TV show

Bam bam, thank you m’am
No guilt thank you sir

Bam bam, thank you m’am
no guilt for you sir
no tears for you sir
Bam bam, thank you m’am
no guilt for you sir
no kiss for you sir

My life has become Madame Tussaud’s museum

Someone will Pay

Written By: Lyrics by Maria Jose Camargo / Music by V FOR VOLUME

SOMEONE WILL PAY

Little Johnny wakes up in the morning
With an urge to smile at all the world
Little did he know, how much you could expect from just 3 seconds
Thomas Gene walks in to the bank
His Colt 45 did all of his speaking…

Someday, somewhere, someone will pay
But he can’t wait that long
Someday, somewhere, someone will pray
To stay predictably safe

Johnny is ready, quiet, calmed and steady
Feeling like the ruler of the world
Happy and disarmed by the light in her eyes
He bleeds and drops dead with a smile

Who could tell
He would be the one,
A broken Black swan
That nobody expected?

Someday, somewhere, someone will pay
But they can’t wait that long
Someday, somewhere, someone will pray
To stay predictably safe

So you may think life’s a funny play,
In which we all have our part at the end
What Johnny knew and understood
Is that he never had control anyway…

Someday, somewhere, someone will pay
But he can’t wait that long
Someday

Bruce Lee

Written By: Lyrics by Maria Jose Camargo / Music by V FOR VOLUME

BRUCE LEE

Here they come again
Why is it that they can run so fast?
Why is it that I got no place to hide all these nightmares?
and I ain’t got no prayers, ain’t got no rhythm, ain’t got no money, ain’t got no tears to share, ain’t got no life to spare, ain’t got no screams to scare

Here they come again
Is the same dream you had yesterday?
The image of Hulk chasing you round and round

Let’s sleep together, would you scare the monsters in my closet?
Are you ready to call Bruce Lee?

Let’s sleep together, would you call Chuck Norris or are you ready to call Mr. Lee

Always in my dreams, I picture these flashy ways to die,
Like being smashed on a plane crash at twenty thousand miles an hour
Here they come again
Is the same dream you had yesterday?
The image of the same plane crashing down

Let’s sleep together, would you scare the monsters in my closet?
Are you ready to call Bruce Lee?
Let’s sleep together, would you call Machete? Or are you ready to call Mr. Lee?

Drop Dead Gorgeous

Written By: Lyrics by Maria Jose Camargo / Music by V FOR VOLUME

DROP DEAD GORGEOUS

Isn’t crime just fascinating?
The perfect scenery, for our reality show
So here’s the way that it goes,
and how the story begun:
It was the two of us.
Just you, me and a gun

So come on, feel the noise
If you want follow my voice
So come on, feel the noise,
We’ll never fall apart

We passed those seconds as if there was no tomorrow
But the illusion remained,
So drop dead!

Drop dead gorgeous
Can’t you see I’m lying?
Get out! your heart is my battlefield
'Cause all the things you thought were real
They all become dust.
Don’t you see that everything dies, but a good lie?

Crime is the only world
Where everything’s possible
Crime is the only world
Where everything’s possible

We passed those seconds as if there was no tomorrow
But the illusion remained,
So drop dead!

Drop dead gorgeous
Can’t you see I’m lying?
Get out! Your heart is my battlefield
'Cause all the things you thought were real
They all become dust.
Don’t you see that everything dies, but a good lie?

Everybody all over the world
The world’s coming to an end, so let’s go!
London, Tokyo, New York City,
Let’s get out of here, and then kill them

Drop dead gorgeous
Can’t you see I’m lying?
Get out! Your heart is my battlefield
'Cause all the things you thought were real
They all become dust.
Don’t you see that everything dies, but a good lie?

Drop dead gorgeous
Can’t you see I’m lying?

Girl with a Gun

Written By: Lyrics by Maria Jose Camargo / Music by V FOR VOLUME

GIRL WITH A GUN

Hey!, you girl, now you’re getting down with it
'cause now, you have it
Girl you gotta grab it
You’re sinner, a liar, and that is your power
And you’re playing with fire, regretting is sour….

Hey, you there
Serving all those cocktails
And of course, you boy
In line at the bank
She’s a sinner, a liar, and that is her power
‘cause she’s playing with fire, regretting is sour….

There she goes, the girl with all the guns,
She’s having fun, so blast them!
Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust
The girl with the gun

Hey, you girl
Now you’re getting down with it
'cause now you have it
Girl you gotta grab it
You’re a sinner, a liar
And that is your power
and you’re playing with fire
Regretting is sour

You, the guy staring that Jack Daniels
And of course, you lady!
Yeahh you smoking baby
Hey, believing is power, believing is power
And regretting is sour, regretting is sour

There she goes, the girl with all the guns,
She’s having fun, so blast them!
Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust
The girl with the gun

I want to take you away
So let me show you the way
Everybody, come meet your devil!
Get down on the floor, all you rebels…

Hey, the devil helps those who help themselves
So come on, shake it up ‘cause your time is running out
Probe you’re here, you’re alive, you can scream like an ape
happiness is your wargun

I want to take you away
So let me show you the way
Everybody, come meet your devil!
Get down on the floor, all you rebels…

There she goes, the girl with all the guns,
She’s having fun, so blast them!
Ashes to ashes, and dust to dust
The girl with the gun

I want to take you away
So let me show you the way
Everybody, come meet your devil!
Get down on the floor, all you rebels…

Handbook

Written By: Lyrics by Maria Jose Camargo / Music by V FOR VOLUME

HANDBOOK

When I look back to see what I have become
I have to admit that I’m made of little pieces
Every wound and every single stain of pain
Every function of my brain’s built without instructions
There’s just distortion
And some confuse emotions.
I’m I a function of misdeed?
But I’m standing and alive

That’s why I’m sad
Why I’m mad
Why I’m always on the run
Without faith
Without pain
With that sickness on my chest
(Un manual sin instrucciones)

I am like a broken vase with golden bonds
Cause now I’m wise and stronger
Look what my job has made of me:
All this money… All this greed…

That’s why I’m sad
Why I’m mad
Why I’m always on the run
Without faith
Without pain
With that sickness on my chest
(Un manual sin instrucciones)

Look what my job has made of me…
But I’m standing and alive!

That’s why I’m sad
Why I’m mad
Why I’m always on the run
Without faith
Without pain
With that sickness on my chest

Borrowed

Written By: Lyrics by Maria Jose Camargo / Music by V FOR VOLUME

BORROWED

Between me and my life there’s a shiny crystal
I can see clearly through it, but I can’t ever touch it
You now people have to really suffer enough
To risk it all to do, what they really love

You have the winner ticket
To the lottery of hell
You never asked for perfection
Losing means elevation

Borrowed eyes, for looking into
Your borrowed world
What the hell I got into?
Borrowed time, for spending into
Your borrowed world,
What the hell I got into?

You know we forget what we want to remember
And we remember what we want to forget…

You have the winner ticket, To your own hell

Borrowed eyes, for looking into
Your borrowed world
What the hell I got into?
Borrowed time, for spending into
Your borrowed world,
What the hell I got into?

You’re fading
Like the copy of a copy
Of a bad story
No loss, but no glory

Borrowed eyes, for looking into
Your borrowed world
What the hell I got into?
Borrowed time, for spending into
Your borrowed world,
What the hell I got into?
