Vicki Maldonado

Born and raised in Manhattan I had a humble early childhood. The first four years of my life were warped, from a simple family of four, to a sister trying to protect and provide for her younger sibling; me. We were homeless, hungry, and without parents.

While our lives eventually transformed into something normal, we still had our share of scars from our childhood. For me, I learned to release my feelings in poems. I gained accolades in school by receiving the writing award at graduation as well as winning a few local poetry competitions.

Originally, I didn't combine my poetry with any melody. Though I would hum original melodies, the inspiration to start writing was my father exposing me to Jim Morrison. Since then a pen and paper have been the outlet of my experiences past and present.

I am always working on music that connects with people. Life brings road blocks and as a writer those are the instances I document. This is because the road blocks in my life, which I have overcome, made me a stronger person and artist. I want people to turn to my music in tough times and I hope it helps give them the resolve to overcome their own obstacles.
