Bio
Twenty-thirteen has proven to be a career defining year for singer/songwriter, Victoria Young, with the release of her highly anticipated single, "Rollercoaster." As she continues to work on her debut EP, Victoria has captivated her audiences in her hometown of Memphis, TN. and across the country and abroad. A 2013 Duke graduate, Victoria has learned what it means to infuse passion and hardwork to chase her dream.
Victoria Elizabeth Young, born October 6, 1991, began singing at the age of two years old, first singing at home and church. Her father, the late Rev. Roy Young, Sr., who served as a pastor and her mother, Vickie Young Bartlett, who shared the same love for music were blown away at the personality, range, and fearlessness of their daughter. Victoria was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. A precocious child, Victoria was soon directing her church’s adult choir at the tender age of five years-old. It became clear to everyone that Victoria had a gift and a passion for music. Sharing this love for music with her father, Victoria and her dad worked effortlessly to hone her presentation and skill. Soon, Victoria began singing at many venues in Memphis and the Tri-State area, along with accompanying her father to churches and events across the nation as his soloist. Victoria’s life would change forever after the death of her father in 1999. She took this tragic moment in her life to set in place goals she would reach to honor her father’s memory and the bond they shared through music.
As Victoria grew older, she became a triple threat. She continued booking singing engagements across the country, but also began acting and singing in theatre, modeling, and became a competitor in state-wide oratorical contests. Victoria has been a featured soloist at many historical venues and events in Memphis including The Dizzy Bird Lounge, National Civil Rights Museum, National Civil Rights Museum Freedom Awards, Orpheum Theater, The Peabody Hotel, and selected as the National Anthem Soloist for her Duke University 2013 Commencement . She has also performed in numerous musical theatre productions in Tennessee, Mississippi, and North Carolina. Victoria has trained with the world’s preeminent vocal coaches and actors in the United States and London, England. With many accomplishments under her belt, this entertainer had an epiphany that sparked her desire to let her voice be heard to an even greater audience. Victoria will focus on recording original music that she can share with the world. Though small in stature, Victoria has a big voice that leaves an indelible mark on all that hear. She is optimistic about what the future holds.
