Victoria Gibson

There are few female vocalists that can play electric guitar and slide, and among those, fewer that can write strong songs. I have spent many years honing my craft and now it is time to reach a larger audience.
With "Victoria", I play electric Blues, respecting the tradition of artists such as Buddy Guy, but injecting a female energy. This is my traditional music, as my earliest memories of music are from the ecstatic performances in a Gospel Church in Toronto, Canada. Although I grew up in Toronto, I moved to Vancouver, on the west coast as a teenager. The most exciting music in Vancouver is free improvised New Music and Jazz. I was influenced by great performances to study this music and now I perform in an ensemble.
Learning about music has been important to me, so I have studied many world cultures, such as South Indian Karnatic vocals, African drumming and Balinese gamelan. In addition, I am proud to have completed a B.A. Major in Music from the University of British Columbia. All of these influences have given me a different perspective in creating and performing my music.
Now it is time for me to gather up all these treasures from around the world and bring it back home to the Blues. With my band, "Victoria" and in my other projects, I hope to engage the interest of audiences around the world.
