Biography

Contemporary singer/songwriter Victoria Lagerström’s heartfelt voice, sincere lyrics and ability to write timeless melodies make her a rare jewel in today’s music scene. Although influenced by artists like Billie Holiday, Gladys Knight, Sade and Eva Cassidy, Lagerström’s sound is distinctly her own. Her voice has an angelic quality yet echoes of the smoky, full-bodied texture of a classic soul singer. Lagerström states “The singers I returned to again and again were the ones that were brutally honest willing to show themselves as heroic at times and achingly vulnerable at others”.

Born in Sweden, Victoria Lagerström studied voice throughout her school years. Music was a passion, but not the priority in her life until 2005. At that time Lagerström went through a profound transformation initiated by a surgery that left her questioning what was truly important. The eleven songs on her debut album Heaven Sent (2006) were conceived in this receptive time. “I really let myself go”, Victoria says of her deeply introspective lyrics. “I wrote from a place of having no fear. Being near death does that to you”.

Once Lagerström began to focus entirely on music serendipitous events began to happen, aiding her on her journey. Some of Sweden’s most respected musicians assembled to contribute to the refined sound of "Heaven Sent". The record’s title track is a powerful and positive message that resonates with people of any age. The album is based solely on Victoria’s life experiences and her dreams dealing with profound themes such as forgiveness and personal loss. Her expression is sometimes melancholy but ultimately hopeful.

As "Heaven Sent" was finished and her professional career began to blossom, her personal life transformed as well. Lagerström met American singer/songwriter Dave Tate in the fall of 2006. Soon after meeting the two were married, recorded their first duo record The Same Heart and began to perform as a duo in the US. After living in Austin, Texas in 2007 and embarking on a successful tour to the Netherlands, the duo returned to Tate’s southern Utah home to write and record new material.

Victoria Lagerström’s career continues to expand with the 2008 release of Heaven Sent. When asked what she would like the listener to take away from listening to Heaven Sent Victoria says, “I am a firm believer in the soul’s survival no matter the outer circumstances. So, I pray that my songs will give hope to those who need it when they need it. I also want to encourage people to make the most of their dreams in this life”. Victoria pauses for a moment and then continues, “In my song “Broken Armor” I sing The loneliest ones are those who resign from what might have been their reason to shine. I know enough now to fully stand behind that statement”.

Lyrics

Heaven Sent

Written By: Victoria Lagerström

Like an angel
Heaven sent
You stand by me
Lighting up the dark so I can see
Like a soldier
In the name of love
You fight my battles with me
And you keep me safe from harm
You never judge me
When I’m wrong
Your faith in me
Will forever keep me strong
You’re the one I turn to for help
The one I call
When I bang my head against the wall

Chorus
Hand in hand we travel high and low
On a boat across the river of life’s flow
And we’re moving with acceptance
Cause we know
That we’re destined to agree
As long as we’re holding on
Holding on to our destiny

You’re my island on the ocean wide
A place to hide
It’s so good to know you’re on my side
Your steady arms around my waist
Lifting me up high
When I’m way down low

Chorus
Hand in hand we travel high and low
On a boat across the river of life’s flow
And we’re moving with acceptance
Cause we know
That we’re destined to agree
As long as we’re holding on
Holding on to our destiny

I still love you
But I can't make you stay
If time is what you need
I won't be there to block your way
I still care for you
But it's out of my hand
See life has taught me this
Some birds travel far before they land
Safe is the road
Known by the heart
So stand by your word

Chorus
Free
Go on and be free
Free
Go on and be free

In my life you are the greatest love
With you I'd settle down
I wanted to
Buy a house and raise a family
In a quiet part of town
But the things I used to dream
Are all lost in space
This is a time of letting go
Knowing life will set the pace
Brave is he
Who can rise above his own need
Take a step back and say

Free
Go on and be free
Free
Go on and be free

Selfish are the hands
That crave for you
I promise I will be brave for you
Fearless is the voice inside my heart
Pleading set him free

Free
Go on and be free
Free
Go on and be free

Free
Go on and be free
You're so free
Go on and be free
See I won't hold you back my love
Fly just like a bird
Free
I'm setting you free
You're free

Fly so high
Fly so high
Fly so high

Loose Ends

Written By: Victoria Lagerström

You
You let me down
You kept me close
Only to let me drown
In a pool
A flood of tears
You left me hanging
On a loose end all these years
I played a part
You led me on
You wired me up
Til I was gone
You left me standing
With a ball in chain
The last known chapter baby
Of a sad refrain

Chorus
You faded fast and so did my dream
We flew like birds
Above the stream
Came right down
Crashed into the sun

A twist of fate
A bag of lies
A ton of steel
From a clear blue sky
It weighed me down
And when you helped me up
The trial was done
The race was run

Chorus
You faded fast and so did my dream
We flew like birds
Above the stream
Came right down
Crashed into the sun

Broken Armor

Written By: Victoria Lagerström

Broken Armor
lyrics:Victoria Lagerström/music:Victoria Lagerström,Henrik Moberg

Hold me in your arms
Protect me with your strength
Don’t judge me for my broken armor
Believe in me
As I believe in you
The loneliest ones
Are those who resign
From what might have been
Their reason to shine
Follow me
I’m ready to take a leap
I’m rising up
Cause I wanna believe

Chorus
And so I pray
I pray for the light in me
Darling I
I pray
I pray for the strength
To grow within
I call on the girl who believed in love

Keep me safe and warm
So I can be full grown
Can’t you sense the longing in me
The luckiest ones
Are those who know love
I wanna belong
I wanna come home
Cover me
I need to know I’m safe inside my dream
And possibly
You’ll catch me when I’m ready to let you in

Chorus
And so I pray
I pray for the light in me
Darling I
I pray
I pray for the strength
To grow within
I call on the girl who knew how to love
