Biography

I don't know what I would do without my guitar. It has been there for me through the good times, the difficult times and the crazy times.

I started playing in high school, teaching myself by watching the greats (Slash, Zakk Wylde, Paul Gilbert). I started playing with some local guys, shredding riffs and trading advice. Before long, a few buddies and I started The Hours After, a rock band. We played a few shows in Toronto and at local events, slowly getting hooked on the rush that comes with performing for a live audience.

I have a difficult time focusing on only one genre of music and before long I was also part of the local hardcore metal band, Fifth Effigy. Both bands allow me to express myself through personal guitar and lyric compositions.

However, I still felt best sitting alone with my acoustic guitar in my room, writing and singing and composing songs. This love for complete musical expression is what brought around Victor Swift; the solo performer. From these modest roots came my self-proclaimed CD, “Victor Swift.”

I put together a band comprised of the best musicians I know;
Kyan Parande: "Local Guitar God"
Ian Brown: "The Best Beat Master In Town"
and Becca Kennedy: "The Grooviest Bass Slinger I Know"
And we started to rock.
Our first show together as a band was epic; our sound was so tight and so sweet and the crowd went crazy begging for more.

I have no idea what the future holds for me, but as long as it involves music, I will be happy.

Lyrics

This Neon City

Written By: Victor Swift

This neon city keeps on buzzing way too loud
Its flashing lights fight off the night and draw out crowds
Like thirsty zombies they walk the streets looking for cheer
Barricade your windows and doors and keep out all the looming fear

Alright...living in fright all night
Heeeey.... dread and dismay all day
In this cold sweated nightmare
I wait in despair
And lie wide awake

This cities crime rate keeps on climbing everyday
Its shameless noise and merry toys attract its prey
Who knows what danger lurks around each darkened alley
Their screams are muffled by the cities restless party

Alright...living in fright all night
Heeeey.... dread and dismay all day
In this cold sweated nightmare
I wait in despair
And lie wide awake

(solo)

Alright...living in fright all night
Heeeey.... dread and dismay all day
In this cold sweated nightmare
I wait in despair
And lie wide awake

Heart of Stone

Written By: Victor Swift

Clouds of dread and skies of pain
Pray to God to make it rain
To wash away all the dismay
So everything will be okay

All the tears you carry weigh you down
the grief inside is so profound
With glazed over eyes you struggle to disguise; the pain the ache the lies

I will arise
Above the lies
And burn my disguise
I will postpone
Being alone
No one's born with a heart of stone

Stomach sick, shoulders weak
You try to hide, you feel so bleak
Hard to swallow, hard to breath
You stand up tall only to leave

All the tears you carry weigh you down
the grief inside is so profound
With glazed over eyes you struggle to disguise; the pain the ache the lies

I will arise
Above the lies
And burn my disguise
I will postpone
Being alone
No one's born with a heart of stone

(solo)

I will arise
Above the lies
And burn my disguise
I will postpone
Being alone
No one's born with a heart of stone

She Will Never Know

Written By: Victor Swift

she's like a gentle summers breeze
the tickle right before I sneeze
she is so divine

she's like the rush before a leap
a soft sweet calm refreshing sleep
she is so refined

she's like the fresh crisp morning air
excuse me while i stop and stare
she's all of this to me i swear

she means more to me
than she'll ever know
she fills my soul with glee
each day my feelings grow
she'll never know
I love her though
the worst part is the fact that I will never show her

shes like the peaceful falling snow
a warm inviting playful meadow
she is fantastic

she's like the vast enchanting sky
a bright and graceful fire fly
enthusiastic

shes like a graceful autumn day
a comforting and loving sway
together we could run away

she means more to me
than she'll ever know
she fills my soul with glee
each day my feelings grow
she'll never know
I love her though
the worst part is the fact that I will never show her

(solo)

she means more to me
than she'll ever know
she fills my soul with glee
each day my feelings grow
she'll never know
I love her though
the worst part is the fact that I will never show her

Dearly Departed

Written By: Victor Swift

Lying here worse off than dead,
as images flash through my head

Beside me where you once lay,
the ground is soft the grass is, grey

Wake up, get up, stand up they say
I squirm, I twitch, I try, but stay
And I am here and here I’ll lay,
Another day, another day

I see your lips but hear no sound;
the world keeps turning round and, round

I try to whisper in your ear,
I start to yell but you don’t, hear

He’s beat, he's gone, he's dead, they cry
I stare right back and wonder why
Why every eye is so damn dry
Still here I lie, until I fly

(Chorus)
Sick and tired
Un-inspired
To fix a world
That’s been so badly burned
Agitated
Aggravated
At those to blame
Who feed the bitterness flame

Temporarily lost
Entranced within a dream
The pounding of my heart awakes me
Makes me want to scream
Let me go back
I can’t stay here
It all became
so crystal clear

I need to escape
The things that makes me nauseous
I need to break away; I need to be real cautious
There are bad men in this world you see
And these bad men wont leave me be
(Chorus)
Sick and tired
Un-inspired
To fix a world
That’s been so badly burned
Agitated
Aggravated
At those to blame
Who feed the bitterness flame

Its time to show the world
That beauty does exist
Its time for someone to stand up
And open a clenched fist
I’ve grown too tired
to succeed
I pass the dream to you
so you may lead

(Chorus)
Sick and tired
Un-inspired
To fix a world
That’s been so badly burned
Agitated
Aggravated
At those to blame
Who feed the bitterness flame

Today’s the day I choose to die
The ones I love turned a blind eye
Tied to the ground it’s hard to fly
Yet still I push on towards the sky

I wonder if one eye will cry
When I say my last goodbye
If I could find just one ally
One who won’t cheat, or steal, or lie

And if one heart still questions why
My singing spirit will reply
"Here is the truth I can't deny,
It just became too hard to try"

All my patience has run dry
I’ll shed the skin that once was shy
Please God forgive my final sigh
Who is to blame the world or I?

Lying here worse off then dead, as images flash through my head

Set List

Typically we play 30 min to 45 min sets (normally we play 8 or 9 songs) but we are capable of much more.
The set we play is different every time but we play most of the songs off my CD "Victor Swift" and a handful of other originals. We do a bunch of covers as well depending on the occasion (usually one cover per show). In the past we have covered "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen, "It's My Life" by Jon Bon Jovi, "Hero" by Enrique Iglesias, and "Foxy Lady" by Jimi Hendrix.
Solo acoustic sets are common by Victor Swift by himself if requested. These sets contain most of the same songs as the full band set but the tone is much calmer.
