Bio

With heart-felt lyrics supported by an emotive voice and uncomplicated finger pick or strum on her guitar, Viki Gayhardt sings about everyday experiences and stories that seem mundane until she "pokes them with a stick.”
As a child, Viki's mantra was, "It's not fair," and her mother's response echoes today through Viki's songs, "Life isn't always fair." That's not to say it can't be beautiful, and Gayhardt produces simple yet profound ballads that attest to that.
Gayhardt had put away her microphone and guitar for many years between marriage and the birth of her kids. The experience of mothering two children with special needs inspired her to return to songwriting as a means of processing her emotions and connecting with other parents experiencing similar experiences. "Songwriting was better than driving my car into a tree." In 1996, Viki recorded several of those songs on a mini recording titled "Journey to Acceptance."
Nearing midlife, Viki returned to college to finish her degree in humanics and her songwriting resumed in earnest after a class assignment required her to connect community with music. She's been writing ever since.
Her early influences were songwriters such as the Wilson sisters and Stevie Nicks. Today, Gayhardt leans more toward folk artists such as Lori McKenna, Cheryl Wheeler, and Mark Erelli for inspiration.
