"Rockers Villains of Yesterday release video filmed in South Park"

Cinco de Mayo was celebrated a night early upstairs at the Mission Latin Bar and Restaurant in the Admiral Junction with the band Villains of Yesterday and fans who watched their new video release on the TV monitor there. The track "Walls" is from "Zero in the Sun", their album to be released May 24.

The band formed in Nov., 2009. Bandmember Shawn Zellar, drummer and vocalist, lives south of the Alaska Junction. Carl Klein, guitarist and vocalist, also lives in West Seattle. Terry Houser, lead vocalist, lives in South Park, and Sean Gephardt on bass and vocals lives on the East Side. The video was shot in a 50,000 square-foot warehouse with 30-foot ceilings in South Park by West Seattle videographer Jamie Chamberlin. The West Seattle Herald has featured Chamberlin and his video work with ZZ Top and, currently, Duff McKagan and his band Loaded.

For "Walls", Chamberlin utilized the cavernous, industrial space with high angles and wide shots and even a close-up pan with his fish-eye lens. Well, OK, he could have done that shot in a small room, but it still looks cool.

"Jamie did our video in one night, late in our warehouse were I work, the Revere Group Packaging," said Zellar.

"Layne Staley Tribute draws My Sister's Machine, Shawn Smith and others"

The 2010 Layne Staley Tribute and Benefit Concert features reunited Seattle grunge band My Sister's Machine, as well as Shawn Smith (with All Hail the Crown), Villains of Yesterday and Gunn & the Damage Done, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 21) at Showbox at the Market.

Staley, as the original lead singer for Alice in Chains, was one of the seminal figures of Seattle grunge. He died in April 2002 of a drug overdose. The band has successfully reunited, with William DuVall as frontman.

The event is presented by the Emerald City Musicians Network and Darrow Music Productions.

My Sister's Machine will feature its original lineup: Nick Pollock (vocals, guitar), Owen Wright (guitar), Chris Ivanovich (bass) and Chris Gohde (drums).

"(Layne) and I grew up together musicially, and as best friends as teenagers," says Pollock. "I had some of the best timesof my life with Layne and miss him very much. It's a privilege to honor his memory and life with My Sister's Machine having the opportunity to do this show."

Smith, who has been involved in a number of bands (Brad, Satchel and Pigeonhed), will lead All Hail the Crown, featuring himself on vocals, Kevin Wood (brother of Andrew Wood, of Mother Love Bone fame) on guitars, Rob Day on bass and Mike Hommel on drums.

"Part of the excitement of Shawn Smith," says tribute producer Jamie Richards, "is you never known which of his incarnations will perform or who will be gracing the stage with him."

Leading Gunn & the Damage Done is Tommy McMullin, former member of high-profile Seattle band War Babies.

Also appearing at the benefit is Staley's mom, Nancy McCallum. And two Seattle-area teens influenced by Staley's music - Jason Kertson and Amana Hardy - will perform a set.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Layne Staley Memorial Fund at Therapeutic Health Services, a nonprofit offering holistic treatment options and services for families affected by alcohol and substance abuse and mental illness.

Bio

Formed in November '09 on the streets of Seattle's "Industrial District", the four die-hard musicians and longtime friends of "Villains Of Yesterday" hit the ground running delivering "rock 'n roll" for fun loving music fans everywhere. The band released their self-produced, self-titled debut EP utilizing worldwide distribution in the spring of 2010, and has been receiving airplay on Seattle's favorite rock station, KISW 99.9 FM throughout the remainder of the year.

Eager to play for large audiences, the band's first performance of 2010 was to benefit the Earthquake victims of Haiti, in January '10 with Kurt Bloch's 'The Fixers' at Seattle's "Showbox SODO". April found the band opening for L.A. Guns and the band wrapped up its summer schedule opening for Shawn Smith (of Brad) and My Sister's Machine during the 2010 Layne Staley Tribute concert at Seattle's famous "Showbox at the Market".

Currently, the band is writing and recording new material for the upcoming full length release tentatively named "Zero in the Sun", taking advantage of each unique musical vocabulary that each member brings to the table. The high energy shows will continue this spring and throughout the year, as the band continues with the "leg work" that keeps them "running".
