Villa Lights

Villa Lights is a solo project created by indie-pop singer/songwriter Alessio Aufoujal, similar to artists like Jack’s Mannequin, We the Kings or even Coldplay. From Pierrefonds, Montreal, Alessio has been a musician since the age of 4 with practical and theoretical knowledge of the art in a wide variety of instruments and genres. In 2006, Alessio began to play drums. Once he achieved a very respectable level of drumming (equivalence of the 7th level in the Royal Conservatory of Music of Canada) at age 13, he moved onto the guitar, then the electric bass, piano, trumpet, baritone (euphonium), tuba, trombone, double-bass, additional percussion (djembe, bongo)and vocals. In 2010, with a handful of completed songs, he created his first solo project that went by the name of Alessio & the lights. With the help of a low performance recording studio, he managed to record a few acoustic songs, but this did not satisfy him. He decided to wait. After finding out that the name Alessio & the lights was not available, he was forced to change his artist name to stay away from trouble It is only one year later, in 2011 at age 18 that he became, Villa Lights. Villa Lights is not only an musician, but an all-around autonomous artist. By creating his home studio to a semi-professional performance level, he recorded a demo. What is incredible about this is that all the instruments and vocals that appear on this demo are all performed by Villa himself. From the drums to the guitar to the piano and the bass, he recorded it all within one week. Also, the artwork for his band merchandise, the cover art for his future EP, the band photography, booking, managing, press, everything is done by Alessio. There is not one detail that is not done by him, no image, no sample. He is devoted to his music and more importantly to the art. What really makes Villa Lights stand out is his passion for what he does, and the raw talent in his music and art. An example of this “raw” talent is the fact the in his songs, there are no effects present on Alessio’s voice but the echo of his studio in comparison to any artist using pitch correcting softwares. Villa Lights is the living proof of art at its pure state. “What you hear or see, is what you get”, and what you get is what he feel, hoping you aswell can relate to a lyric in a songs, or photo, be it only one and his job is done. With a strive to uphold an authentic and real musical talent, Villa Lights is the one-man show that is as flexible as one man can be. It is safe to say that with such a great versatility and pure passion for art, the future seems bright for Villa Lights.
