Bio
VILLA NAH
Like all classic partnerships in the vein of Riggs and Murtaugh and Hornet and Kato, Villa Nah is a combination of two opposites – Tomi Hyyppa and Juho Paalosmaa. Friends since childhood, Tomi is the calm one who knows how to reroute a midi controller into a 101 sequencer, while Juho writes the songs and sings the words. “Tomi knows the tech. I just work the pop,” says Juho.
2010 was a breakthrough year for the Helsinki duo, whose debut album ‘Origin’, co-produced by Jori Hulkkonen, entered the top ten in Finland, where they regularly play to full houses, and has gone on to captivate countless synth fans around the world with its sparkling melancholy pop. The Moshi Moshi label picked up on two of its stand-out tracks, ‘Running On’ and ‘Ways to Be’, releasing them as a UK single in May, which led to a string of summer shows in London and festival appearances at Bestival and in Lisbon with Planet Turbo, among others.
Recently, Villa Nah have leant their soft melodic touch to remixes for Au Revoir Simone and OMD, by whom they were invited to support on the UK leg of their ‘History of Modern’ tour, and have spent the autumn in their studio writing for their second album and preparing for the long Finnish winter.
