Vim Cortez ‘s spaceship surfs on the funkiest waves of eighties synthpop and synthfunk. His music pays tribute to the terrestrial sounds that marked his childhood, from Michael Jackson to Shalamar, from Prince to Cameo. Fat synth basses slapped hard by old school drum machines, synth leads as sharp as analog ice and bone-dry guitar licks…
But Vim Cortez’s music is not a trip down memory lane nor a wink at the hipster-kitschster crowd: there is a darker, restless feeling hovering above the beats, the lyrics and the voices that remind us how synthfunk can be the angry, fidgety little brother of Future Soul. Vim Cortez was recently joined by Miss Swanny (vocals, vocoder) and Captain “Flavor” Flav (vocals, percussions), and together they steer their galactic schooner towards more adventures…Vim Cortez, playing soon on a planet near you.
