"Bloomfield Singer Has Lovin' Feelin'"

Singer-songwriter Vincnet Lloyd of Bloomfield wanted to pitch his premiere CD, "Life Is Sweet." And he wanted to do it around Valentine's Day because, well, it's a compilation of love songs he has written over the years.

So he and his wife, Andrea Austin Thompson, headed to the Big City, and voila...free advertising, courtesy of NBC's "The Today Show."

Thanks to a professionally done 20- by 34-inch hard-to-miss seasonally suitable red-and-white sign announcing the release of "Life Is Sweet," the couple was picked out of the morning-show crowd Saturday be weather and feature reporter Al Roker for an outdoor interview.

"It is my first CD, and its always been a dream of mine to get one produced," Lloyd said later, calling the advertising a "calculated accident."

"It just seemed like a good way to get some exposure," said Lloyd, who performs in small shows and at charity events when not working as a contractor. "But since the show, I've had over 1,000 hits on my website [vincentlloyd.net], so I guess some people were watching."

Among the tunes meant for two is the title song plus "We've Got Love," "Pretty Lady" and "She'll Be Waiting."

Enthused about his musical future, Lloyd (whose legal last name is Thompson) said there was the proverbial "icing on the cake" the next day.

"Today Show" host Matt Lauer later listened to the CD and e-mailed Lloyd to say, "Hey, Vincent, Loved your CD."

So after pulling together a CD full of love songs, what does the hopeless romantic do to top that when he shows his love for his wife on Valentine's Day today?

"She loves to be pampered, so there will be a special dinner and a gift to a spa," said Lloyd, who has been married for seven years. "And I'll sing to her. I always do." - The Hartford Courant
