Vini's music is all Jesus. Thematically 60's folk. 'The Invitation' could be considered Acoustic Alternative, though, and 'Christ Crucified' is Righteous Americana Mariachi with Beatles-like backup vocals. It all adds up to well-played original/familiar/unique. Bottom Line: God be glorified!

Biography

Mission Statement:
I believe that the Lord's Mission in my life is: to Love and Honor Him as The Only One and True God, The Almighty God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob!! . . to live by The Spirit and be constantly aware of His sacrifice, to pray without ceasing and to utilize the talents He has given me, that He might bring increase to His Kingdom . . . and to present myself as a bond servant to Him that He might bring glory to Himself in me as He is The Only One deserving of the glory!

Statement of Faith:
I Believe in Jesus Christ. I believe that he is the Son of God. That He emptied himself of His glory to walk the earth as a Man. That He lived, died and rose again on the third day. That He paid for the sins of the world on the cross, that He became sin for us. I believe that He walked in the world according to God the Fathers' plan, doing nothing of Himself but what His Father commanded of Him. I Believe in the Trinity. That God is three persons in one. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit. That we are born-again when we receive Christ as our Lord and Savior and that we are sealed in salvation by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. I believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. I believe that I am a born-again believer and will be with Jesus in His Kingdom.

Bio:
My Dad bought me my first guitar for my 12th Birthday and I was immediately obsessed. The Beatles had just landed and I couldn't put it down. I wrote my first song at 19 and since then I've pretty much had one going at all times . . to the present day. It was the process of expressing a thought or emotion or capturing a moment in a little musical interlude that I pursued. What a wonderful expression. I've been doing demos since the early 70's. I cut a local record in '76 in Maine. I made a living doing a solo lounge/bar act thru the 70's in New England and eastern Canada until my early 30's at which point I got a 'real' job and played in a few original bands in the Boston scene . . . always recording . . . . . I came to California in '90 to pursue a songwriting career and became a Christian, at which point I pursued the Lord and started writing and playing worship as well as writing contemporary Christian material. At this point, the writing turned into the process of revealing God's plan or expressing His desires or our/my struggles in a musical interlude. Making a point or presenting a thought that encourages us or draws us closer to God and that Glorifies our Savior. Such a privilege. I've had the joy of leading worship at 3 different churches in Southern California and have had the pleasure of leading worship at a couple years worth of Youth Camps. I've put my efforts for the past 2 years into a Contemporary Christian CD just released, called 'Kingdom of Conscience' and at present I'm busy seeking opportunities to share what The Lord has given me . . .

Christ Crucified

Written By: Vini Contreas

I don't know, I don't know anything but
Christ Crucified, Christ Crucified, He died
I don't know, I don't know anything but
Christ Crucified, Christ Crucified, He died

And He died for me, He died for you
Now that we know this, what we gonna do
This is no game

The Lamb was slain on our behalf
that we be free from Gods wrath
and be led down the path that leads to Him in eternity

I don't want, I don't want anything but
Christ in me, Christ in me, He sets me free
I don't want, I don't want anything but
Christ in me, Christ in me, He sets me free

And He lives in me, He'll live in you
Now that we know this, what we gonna do
This is no dream

We are redeemed and indwelled
because Jesus drank His cup
it was His perfect plan to fill us up with Him

I don't need, I don't need anything but
Gods love, Gods love, That's enough
I don't need, I don't need anything but
Gods love, Gods love, That's enough for me

And He loves me and He loves you
Now that we know this what we gonna do
This is no ploy

We have our joy in the love
of the Father and the Son
and by the Spirit their love can become one in us

His Truth

Written By: Vini Contreas

Sometimes at the break of day
I listen to the birds at play
and wonder what may come my way
Set my heart to heed the call
knowing that I'm bound to fall
I surrender to the All in All

I open up the Word and listen to my Lord
He speaks to me directly, shapes me with the sword of
His Truth

Sometimes in the noon day sun
I look at what Your hands have done
and marvel that You made us one
Set my feet to walk the walk
Set my tongue to talk the talk
Set me mind up on the Rock

I open up the Word and listen to my Lord
He speaks to me directly, draws my heart toward
His Truth

Sometimes when the Sun is set
I remember You had no regret
How willingly You paid my debt

Raise my eyes to see the stars
Realize You're not that far
Cause where I am is where You are

I open up the Word and listen to my Lord
He speaks to me directly, shapes me with the sword
I open up the Word and listen to my Lord
He speaks to me directly, draws my heart toward
His Truth

The Invitation

Written By: by: Isaiah the Prophet (Ch 55) & Vini Contreas

1 Hey! Everyone who thirsts,Come to the waters;
And you who have no money,
Come, buy and eat yes come buy wine and milk
Without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread,
And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good,
And let your soul delight itself in abundance.

3 Incline your ear, and come to Me.
Hear, and your soul shall live;
I'll make an everlasting covenant with you
The sure mercies of David.

4 Behold I've given him a witness for the people,
A leader and commander for the people.
5 Surely you will call a nation you do not know,
And nations that don't know you will run to you,
Because of the LORD your God,And the Holy One of Israel;
For He has glorified you."
6 Seek the LORD while He may be found,
Call upon Him while He is near.

7 Let the wicked man forsake his way,
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
Let him return to the LORD, Who will have mercy on him;
And to our God For He will abundantly pardon.

8 "My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD.
9 "as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 "For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there, But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,

11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth;
It will not return to Me void,
But it will accomplish what I please,
And it will prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

12 "For you shall go out with joy,And be led forth with peace;
The mountains and the hills
Will break forth into singing And all the trees of the field
Will clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thorn tree the cypress tree will grow,
Instead of the brier the myrtle tree will grow;
And it will be to the LORD for a name,
For an everlasting sign that will not be cut off."

Embrace The Light

Written By: Vini Contreas

I know you're thinking that he's been misled
Your heart was sinking and your blue blood was turning red
When you heard what he said
He gave his life to the Lord tonight
He turned his face to embrace the light

I know you're thinking it's a heavy load
You're heart is breaking as you carry it down the road
There's lots of places to go
But only one place will make it right
That's in the grace of Jesus Christ

Every knee shall bow every tongue confess
Why don't you confess right now
in your life be blessed

I'll tell you once and I'll tell you twice
for salvation there is only one sacrifice
Jesus paid that price
Give your life to the Lord tonight
Turn your face to embrace the light

Give It All To Christ

Written By: Vini Contreas

I was disobedient I needed to repent
I covered up my tracks that sin kept coming back
Burdened by the shame, no one else to blame
And when it got so bad, I was losing sight of what I had

I gave it all to Christ
And He delivered me, pulled me through the fire.
Please take this advice
Confess the sin that keeps you from Him

He restored me to my wife, gave her an insight
In her He showed His grace, put me in my place
We hold fast to the truth, now we're living proof
Restored beyond a doubt, He kicked the devil out

We gave it all to Christ
And He delivered us, pulled us through the fire.
Please take this advice
Confess the sin that keeps you from Him

We all have hidden sin, buried deep within
It can't be denied, can't be justified
We will fall into deceipt, put these issues on the shelf
But we'll never be complete, if we choose to deceive ourselves

Give it all to Christ
Let Him deliver you, pull you through the fire.
Please take this advice
Confess the sin that keeps you from Him

Discography

March, 2007: Released 'Kingdom of Conscience', This is an Acoustic Contemporary Christian CD. The tone is 'coffee-house'. All originals: 'The Invitation' was co-written with Isaiah the Prophet, Ch 55 and 'Dereks Lament' was written with Derek Moran. These two cuts showcase the rhythm section as well as 'Christ Crucified' which practically jumps out of the speakers with the 'Ring of Fire' trumpets leading the charge . . (thanks, Johnny). Almost two years in the making, 'Kingdom Of Conscience' features Brad Cummings on Bass and Frank Reina on Drums. Vini is doing the Guitar, Vocals, Harmonica thing and we have Willie Murillo playing Trumpets on 'Christ Crucified.' Willie is Brian Setzer's (Orchestra) music director. Frank tours regularly with Chuck Negron of Three Dog Night fame and Brad is one of the best Bass players in the world. Six cuts feature the full rhythm section, Vini does two cuts with Brad and one by himself. If you don't like the music, you have to be impressed with the recording. Vini's tracks were recorded by Michael Gayle at Glynn Sounds, the rhythm section was recorded in Franks Room and the trumpets in Willie's Garage. Michael, Frank and Willie did bang-up jobs in their perspective corners with the final mixing and mastering crisply engineered by Michael at Glynn Sounds. I'll claim responsibility for the sparing production. We took the 'less is more' road and walked it faithfully. This is a great CD, well written and played. All to God's Glory!! . . . . . .
