"Montreal Music Scene"

'...these guys embraced the darkness of rock and roll and delivered it in such a passionately heavy way that got me hooked on every riff, every word and every beat.' - Montreal Music Scene

"Hour Montreal Weekly"

'Musically, the band is certainly on to something and the playing is above par, complemented by ambitious arranging and a very fine ear for a guitar line'

'Remarkable in and of itself.' - Jamie O'meara

Bio

'Vinland' has always been related to the idea of an arrival, a foundation. It is the name the Vikings, the true wild explorers, gave to their first settlement in America around the 11th century.

It all started in 1999 with Lemy, Roberto and Carlos who had gone through several band experiences in the Spanish rock scene. Lemy is the guy with the very spontaneous way of creating music. The simplistic yet so very fulfilled sound of his guitar playing is present all through the various melodies of Vinland; it is exactly the sound that the band sought to eventually become Vinland's trademark. Roberto has always had a broad interest in various musical genres, a trait which has inspired all of the band's compositions: an obscure, smooth and very rhythmic style that has defined the foundations of many songs to arise. Carlos has chosen his influences from hard rock to dance music, which has conferred on him an outstanding ability to come up with simple yet complex beats that have enhanced the rhythm of the compositions as well as live performances to a much higher level. They eventually met Jeff (who also had been in several bands) through a local newspaper ad. The lyrics and vocal melodies he wrote made a perfect symbiosis with the music that had been completed.

And then, in the beginning of 2002, they started. Musically influenced by the highly influential British post-punk bands of the late 70's - early 80's, like Joy Division, Depeche Mode, U2, The Cure, Siouxsie & the Banshees, and lyrically inspired by The Doors and Pearl Jam, they set out to present a minimal, dark, yet somewhat optimistic sound. The songs took shape rapidly and the name Vinland was chosen by the band whose primary objectives have been to reach out to new musical boundaries and to introduce a music with glimpses from yesterday and tomorrow, and to blend the whole into a dynamic and energetic sound.
