"LME Showcase: May 1st 2009"

On February 22nd, 2009, Landmark Events hosted a Battle of the Bands (BOTB) at Club Soda. 17 bands competed for the chance to play at a showcase for various label representatives. Among the 17 that played, six groups were chosen to play on May 1st at Saints. Arthur Kall, the organizer for both the Battle of the Bands and the showcase, opened with a short acoustic set and introduced the bands that had won the chance to play. The order of the lineup for the evening was based on ticket sales.
The band that won first place on February 22nd was Vinyl Hero, a rock/country/funk quartet that took to the stage second. It was clear that the reason they won was because of their very radio-friendly sound as well as their excellent stage presence. Bio

Making the best of what each member brings to the table, Vinyl Hero is an Alternative/Rock band that ties in influences of funk, country, classical, and jazz. While not sticking religiously to a vintage sound or trying to recreate the music of any particular group, the band attempts to bring back the humanity and organic nature that was so prominent in the music of the vinyl era.

The band was founded by lead singer and guitarist Ray Howard and bassist Costa Siarlis who initially dubbed the band “Recoil.” Though they did not anticipate the two years it would require to find the right members, they have agreed that the search was well worth it.

Initially assuming the position of band manager, the melodic fluency and refined skill level of Marco Favaro led the band's founding members to insist on turning this rock loving choir-boy into its full time keyboardist.

It wasn't until the summer of 2008 that, through a series of coincidental events, the band experienced its first jam with drummer Nicholas Wybo. Within minutes, Vinyl Hero's line-up was set in stone, and the band was off to work.

In less than a year, Vinyl Hero has recorded a 4 song demo CD, won 1st place in the Landmark Battle of the Bands, played some of Montreal's most recognized concert venues, and upon the request of fans and associates, have re-entered the studio.
