The idea behind the name, Violent Passion Surrogate or "V.P.S." comes from the novel by Alduous Huxley, entitled,"Brave New World." The body is flooded with the chemical Adrenin; which causes the physiological equivelent of feeling fear and rage. All of the effects of murder and/or being murdered , without the inconveniences: This treatment also regenerates the body and keeps it free from disease, ensurring a longer, more prosperous life. Eventually, when a person is too old, they enter and are youthenized. This serves as population control, in a world where humans and life in general, are controlled. In a mundane existence, a predictable fate is inevitable. To prefer "inconvenient" and "unpredictable" ideas over the more comfortable forms of music: This is what sets VPS apart. Their message is solid and sometimes obscure, even if its not convenient or comfortable.
Stemming from a host of various subjects, their song's guts touch on fear, rage, and the unspoken obsessions people have dealing with love, hate, joy, etc. V.P.S has crossed the lines of metal, punk, funk and an almost limitless other varieties of musical styles in order to try to create something for everyone. Their goal is not to shy away from the normal and linear, but to influence new forms of obscure styles within themselves. VPS' songs are driven from despairity and passion, adrenaline and pain. Alternatively, some of their songs still share a fuzzy and loving yet, distorted aspect.
