Violet Mary formed in 2007 with one purpose: to rock with profundity. Steeped in british blues, 70's rock, Motown and modern pop, the members of Violet Mary careen their creative visions into a collision of sound and substance; a technicolor display of pure musical passion and sonic intensity. The byproduct of such controlled chaos is nothing short of breathtaking, each line weaving among the other... each rhythm extending the depth of the pocket.
In 2008, Violet Mary released their first record entitled Marionette. The album was received critical acclaim both in print and on-air, and is featured in rotation on WBER, WBZE, WZNE and SoreThumbRadio.com. Violet Mary released their sophomore album, After The Plunge in the fall of 2010. The 11 track record captures the band refining their arrangements and exploring the recording studio to create a spacious, thoughtful and grand soundscape. The band continues to proudly tip its hat to Led Zeppelin on After The Plunge, and expands upon it, adding elements of progressive rock in “Leviathan”, power-pop in “Canada”, Queen-esque vocals on “Long Dark Night” and even a dash of dixieland on “Sweet Tea”.
In 2011, Violet Mary again made a huge noise in the region. The band headlined the Utica Music Festival and joined numerous national acts on stages at The Fairport Music Festival, Party In The Park 2011, and Nola's Outdoor Stage. Violet Mary was selected from over 130 regional entries to be part of WXXI's OnStage, airing on Feb. 26, 2012.
The band has returned to Belly Of The Whale Studios to produce their third record. The ambitious and yet-untitled release, along with a live DVD, are slated for release in late 2012.
