Violet Sky is composed of four distinctly different women whose principal common interests are playing music, practicing yoga, and having fun. Influences range from old Hank Williams to Iggy Pop, Tori Amos to the Dropkick Murphys, Ani DiFranco, Nick Drake, Bad Religion and more. Originals include arrangements of Edgar Allen Poe and William Blake poems.
Each woman's personality colors the music of Violet Sky, from Elizabeth's tribal drums and joyful voice to Cindy's folk-rock guitar and deep, distressed voice to Trisha's consistent and purposeful beats to Rianna's classic flute and honey voice.
With a deliberate decision to avoid rehashing 'bar standards' and 'crowd pleasers,' Violet Sky loves orchestrating their own interpretations of obscure classics. Songs are chosen largely on the basis of lyrical integrity with a strong tendency towards the tragically beautiful.
