V.I.P.

BandHip HopPop

Gay hip-hop from Philly. Beyonce meets John Waters.

Biography

VIP are here to rock your world and blow your mind [and never mind what else].

The group comprised of Jonny Makeup, Bear and Peter Party formed in Philadelphia, later relocating to Brooklyn, New York.

In 2004, Jonny and Peter met working at a phone sex call center as a night-time job, writing dirty raps during their breaks about their lives [think bad dates, bad sex and debauched parties].
Influenced and inspired by artists such as Lil Kim, Beyonce and Trina, hard talking queen bee rappers and pop divas, their sound soon evolved into a pop infused party with rap sensibility.

It wasn't long after their first show that they were given a record deal by Space Foundation (no longer affiliated), who released their 'Mad Coke EP'; of which the New York release party at Misshapes saw VIP being lauded by DJ Larry Tee, Sophia Lamar and Beyonce Knowles.

V.I.P. has played and toured with the likes of Scissor Sisters, Fannypack, Spankrock, Uffie, CSS, Le Tigre and Gravy Train!!!!, who even wrote a song about Jonny Makeup.

Legal battles plagued the band in 2006 as the trio were threatened with litigation from Van Halen who claimed the logo VIP used on the cover of their EP was confusingly similar to Van Halen's.

VIP has performed everywhere, from the Heatherette fashion show runway to a gay porn orgy in Prague - these boys never cease to shock and awe.
