"'Battle of the Bands' competitors announced"

The sides have been chosen for the first annual Ohio University-Chillicothe/Chillicothe Gazette Let's Go! Battle of the Bands.

Of the 23 entries received, judges selected eight groups to perform at the March 6 concert at OU-C's Shoemaker Center.

"The range dealt with alternative rock to hard rock and roll," said Gazette employee Dustin Egan, who was in charge of tabulating the scoring and acted as a judge. "It's all rock, pretty much."

Three judges from the Gazette made their selections, scoring entries on vocals and instrument performance. Egan said all the judges had some sort of musical background.

"They were all open-minded," Egan said.

But the choices weren't easy. The votes were close, and the numbers tightened as they reached the top eight, Egan said.

So what's next?

Bands will be honing their skills until the day of the concert. Two stages will be set up in the Shoemaker Center -- the Pepsi stage and the Budweiser True Live Music stage -- and bands will alternate between them so there will be no break in the action.

But the stages will be equal in all respects, from the light rigging down to the microphones. All the bands will have an equal shot to play their best, and they'll be playing for more than just pride. The first place winner will go home with $500, second place will net $250 and third takes $100.

Fans also will get involved in the judging. As they enter the venue, fans will be given a ballot with which to cast a vote for their favorite band. The group at the end of the night with the most votes will take home a "Fans' Favorite" award.

Tickets for the concert will be $3 advance sale and $5 at the door. They will be available at OU-C and the Chillicothe Gazette's offices on West Main Street. Watch the Gazette and the Web site, www.chillicothegazette.com, for updates, as other ticket sales sites will be announced as they are confirmed.

Bio

Visitant is the coming together of five leaders of many different bands. The members of Visitant were tired of working with musicians who did nothing but waste the time and efforts they had put forth to reach their goals. Visitant doesn't need one leader, every member pulls their own weight and make sure their job gets done. Visitant is a molding of like minded, goal oriented musicians that are working towards Rock Stardom!
