Bio
Vitorino is Portuguese Singer/Author that was born in 1942 in the Alentejo, one of the most beautiful and poor regions of Europe.
The daily struggle for survival required for most of the portuguese families, in the hardest days of the 40's, was revealed, mainly by the hardwork developed in the vineyards, olive groves and the wheat harvests, from where they extracted the daily food. This creates an in Vitorino, from very young, a deep respect for the land and for those that daily treat it well.
The wine, the bread, the olive oil and the work songs sung in the fields of culture, tempered, since ever, Vitorino's personality, creating a curiosity and a devotion to the culture and traditions of his people and his country, that still remains till today.
Growing up in a family composed of musicians, Vitorino musical experiences was building up quite naturally.
At 20 he moved to Lisbon in order to show the art of his Alentejo and the will, naturally, want to know more beyond the endless fields of vineards ans cereals.
In 1973, decides to record the first album of Alentejo collections of traditional songs and includes some original compositions. The delicacy and intelligence that Vitorino adapted very old songs sometimes sound rude to a well-accepted by the general public, was undoubtedly the greatest talent Vitorino and a turnaround in Portuguese music. This was followed by 22 albums and collections of documents that served to music television series, movies, etc..
The headquarters of sharing cultures leads him dozens of times to be invited and to invite the sharing of culture with various artists of various nationalities, a constant attempt to bring cultures and close frointeiras: Tito Paris (Cape Verde), Cesaria Evora (Cape Verde) Luis Pastor (Spain), Habanero Septet (Cuba), Elba Ramalho (Brazil), Gutto Pires (Angola).
Keeping a close relationship of friendship and artistic harmony with the writer Antonio Lobo Antunes, that write some of Vitorino's lyrics, his songs are full of musicallity and poetry...
